Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes (Div. 1) is on tap for this Friday, October 19 from Keeneland in Lexington Kentucky. Three year old fillies will be after their share of the $125,000 purse when they go 1 1/16 miles on Keeneland's turf track.
The Pin Oak has been split into two divisions because of the quantity of entries that the race has drawn - a $150,000 purse has been split into two $125,000 purses as a result. Division 1 has attracted 12 fillies for race 7 on Keeneland's Friday card. Post time is 4:17. Here is a breakdown of the 12 entries into the first division and what should transpire Friday.
Colonial Flag - Mike Matz trained filly finished a very good second by one length in the Grade 3 Regret Stakes at Churchill Downs on June 16 to follow a pair of wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont and a Maiden Special Weight at Keeneland. She finished a disappointing eighth July 14 in the Grade 1 American Oaks but bounced back last time out with an impressive win in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen. Colonial Flag has six career starts with three wins and a second but her win last time out makes her a favorite Friday.
Miss Cato - made her North American debut with a respectable fourth in the Grade 1 American Oaks after four wins, two seconds and a third place finish in her seven starts in Europe. Her last two starts have yielded two seconds - an Allowance two back and at the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington Park September 15.
Volcat - Ken McPeek filly won two straight - an Allowance June 22 and an impressive score in the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks July 21. Last time out was another decent result - a third in the Grade 3 Pucker Up September 15. She has placed in eight of 10 career starts and enters Friday's race in relatively good form.
Alaura Michele - is a multiple stakes winner for trainer Bill Mott but has a sixth at the Given Stakes and a third in the Riskaverse Stakes in her last two starts. Before that was two wins in three races - the P.G. Johnson and Nani Rose Stakes. She has shown good form but has started only one graded stakes race - an eighth in the Grade 3 Miss Grillo at Belmont last October.
Closing Range - makes her graded stakes debut Friday but enters having won three of her four career starts including her last two. Last time out was a nice win in the Twin Light Stakes at Monmouth August 26.
