2012 Violet Stakes Race Favorites

Romacaca - graded stakes winner Romacaca most recently won a top flight turf Allowance race at Calder to follow up a disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 Honey Fox. She finished an impressive second in the Florida Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf on January 23rd to put her on the radar for the 2012 season and to prove that a win in the Grade 3 Matchmaker Stakes last July was no fluke. She has placed in 21 of 27 career starts including 13 wins (five straight to start the season last year).

My Redbyrd - has placed in her last three starts - a win last time out in the Videogenic Stakes, a second in the Middle Stage Stakes and a third in the Pebbles Stakes. In 12 career starts My Redbyrd has four wins, two seconds and three third place finishes. Her only graded stakes action resulted in a respectable fourth in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes last August.

Violet Stakes 2012 | Remaining Field Entries

Whipsaw City - Chad Brown trained filly had won two straight races - an Allowance Optional Claiming on March 17th and an Allowance race on January 15th, both at Gulfstream and made her North American graded stakes debut last time out - racing to a fifth in the Grade 1 Vinery Madison Stakes at Keeneland. Whipsaw City is an intriguing sleeper in this race.

Here to Win - has looked good in 2012 so far - a fourth last time out in the Grade 3 Grey Goose Bewitch Stakes followed a very impressive score in the Grade 3 Very One Stakes at Gulfstream on February 25th.

Unbridled Humor - won the Grade 3 Noble Damsel Stakes last September at Belmont and has been competitive since. She has had third place finishes in the Grade 3 Athenia and the Grade 3 Hillsborough, fourths in the Grade 1 Matriarch and Florida Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf and was second most recently in the First Dude Distaff Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on April 7th.

Pinch Pie - varying results in a pair of Grade 1 races last year - a third in the Alabama Stakes was followed by a seventh in the Garden City Stakes. She ended her 2011 with a fifth in the Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes and started 2012 with a win in an Allowance Optional Claiming in her only start this year.

In the Rough - has placed in only one graded stakes race - back in 2010 but has looked decent in some minor stakes races of late - a second in the Dahlia Stakes last time out followed a fourth in the Wait a While Stakes

Ruthenia - has races just one graded stakes race in her nine career starts - a tenth in Appalachian Stakes in April 2010. Last time out was a win in an Allowance race at Gulfstream and before that Ruthenia was second in the Pago Hop Stakes at Fair Grounds to close her 2011 campaign.
