Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Smarty Jones Stakes is on tap for this holiday Monday, September 3 from Parx Racing just outside of Philadelphia. Three year olds will saddle up and go one mile, 70 yards on Parx main track for a nice purse of $350,000.
The Smarty Jones has attracted a strong field of nine three year olds to go in race 10 on Parx holiday Monday card. Post time is 4:40 PM. Let's take a look at all nine entries and their recent performances ahead of this Grade 3 race.
Teeth of the Dog - had a string of two straight wins - the minor Easy Goer Stakes June 9 and the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes interrupted by a fourth last time out in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes in the mud at Saratoga. He had a respectable fifth in the Preakness and before that was a decent third in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct on April 7. Teeth of the Dog looked to be in top form for trainer Mike Matz before the most recent outing and will be looking to rebound on Monday.
Prospective - won the minor Victoria Park Stakes at Woodbine on June 10 and followed that with a win in the Grade 3 Ohio Derby at Thistletown on July 7. Last time out was an uber-disappointing eighth in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy and like Teeth of the Dog; Prospective will be looking for a bounce-back effort on Monday. Earlier this year Prospective was eighteenth in the Kentucky Derby to follow a sixth in the Blue Grass Stakes on April 4 and two wins in three races - the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby and the Pasco Stakes.
My Adonis - started 2012 decently - a third at the Grade 3 Holy Bull followed by a second at the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes. Since then My Adonis has a seventh in the New York City Wood Memorial, a third in the Cannonero II Stakes on May 5 an eighth in the Belmont. My Adonis won the minor Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth on July 8 before a rather disappointing fifth last time out in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy. Other decent results in 2012 include a second in the Grade 3 Gotham and a third in the Grade 3 Holy Bull to start the year.
Easter Gift - comes into the Smarty Jones with little experience but a ton of hype. He made his graded stakes debut in the Grade 3 Pegasus stakes at Monmouth on June 17 and finished a very good second by a neck after two wins in his first two career starts - an Allowance score here on May 22 and before that a win in a Maiden Special Weight at Gulfstream on April 7. Last time out was a rather pedestrian fourth in the minor Curlin Stakes at Saratoga on July 27.

Since then Junebugred has posted a distant sixth in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes in February and a seventh last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Saratoga after a five and a half month layoff.
Traffic Light - enters the Smarty Jones having won four of his last five starts including his last two. Included in the wins is the minor Crowd Pleaser Stakes here on July 28 and an Allowance Optional Claiming here last time out on August 19.
Not a Given - will be making his stakes debut on Monday but is riding a three race win streak - Allowance and Maiden Special Weight scores at Monmouth the last three months.
Runnin Bull - will be making his graded stakes debut having raced nine times already in 20125 with one win - an Allowance score here in May and three third place finishes including an Allowance last time out. Running Bull has just two wins in 17career starts.
Brimstone Island - multiple stakes placed colt has 12 starts in 2012 with four wins, four seconds and a third place finish. He placed in two straight stakes races in February and March of this year.
