Las Vegas, NV - Prairie Meadows will be the scene for the Grade 3 Iowa Derby this Saturday June 30th. Horses three years old will race 1 1/16 miles on Prairie Meadows' main dirt track in search of their share of the $250,000 purse.

The Iowa Derby has attracted a field of five to go in race 8 on Prairie Meadows Saturday card. Post time is 9:39. Here is a look at the five entrants and what brought them to this lucrative Grade 3 event.

2012 Iowa Derby Race Favorites

Hansen - Eclipse Award winner for two-year-old colts Hansen has four wins and two seconds in seven career starts - a disappointing ninth last time out at the Kentucky Derby being by far his worst career start. Hansen's impressive wins include last year's Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct on March 3rd. He instantly gives this race credibility - it wasn't that long ago that he was being mentioned for a possible Triple Crown bid!

Alsvid - will be making his graded stakes debut after an impressive run in some minor stakes races. Overall Alsvid has won three of his last four races including the Prairie Mile Stakes last time out and the Golden Circle Stakes both at Prairie Meadows in the last two months. Alsvid has five wins and a third place finish in seven career starts and is Hansen's main competition.

Truetap - Finished second to Alsvid last time out in the Prairie Mile Stakes to follow a win in an Allowance in April. In 11 career starts Truetap has just two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Hero of Order - has 17 career starts with only two wins - the latest win an impressive score at the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby on April 1st at Fair Grounds. Since that time Hero of Order has struggled to a 13th in the Blue Grass Stakes, a fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming and an eighth most recently in the Arlington Classic Stakes. Hero of Order has had impressive results in the past but certainly isn't in the best form at the moment.

Macho Bull - will make his graded stakes debut this Saturday after some unflattering results in Allowance races this year. Last time out was a seventh in his stakes debut - the Sea O Erin Stakes at Arlington Park on June 9th. Macho Bull doesn't figure to be much of a factor on Saturday.
