2012 Royal North Stakes Race Favorites
Roxy Gap - has a pair of wins on this track this year - the Grade 2 Hendrie Stakes last time out by 2 ½ lengths and the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes on April 22nd . Since that time she has recorded a pair of seconds - in the Grade 2 Nassau on grass to Marketing Mix and last time out at the Sweet Briar Too Stakes on July 7th. Roxy Gap had a win in the Fury Stakes, a fourth in the Woodbine Oaks and a second in the Ontario Damsel Stakes on this track in 2011 as well. She is familiar with and is very good at Woodbine but she prefers the Polytrack surface.
Atlantic Hurricane - is a Canadian champion female sprinter and is on a streak of seven wins and two third place finishes in her last nine starts - the last victory coming in an Allowance over Jenny's So Great on July 6th. Among the wins are the Grade 3 Bessarabian Stakes and the Ontario Fashion Stakes. Two races ago Atlantic Hurricane ran third in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes here on April 22nd - that race after a five month layoff. She is a champion for a reason and will be looking to get back on the graded stakes radar this Sunday.
Jenny's So Great - was 10th in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes at Gulfstream January 7th to start 2012 and has had mixed results since. She recorded a fourth in the Grade 3 Endeavour at Tampa Bay in February, followed that up with a pair of sevenths in two minor stakes races and was decent second last time out in an Allowance here on July 6th. Jenny's So Great is the defending champion in this race and enters in so-so form.
