Singspiel Stakes at Woodbine
Las Vegas, NV - Woodbine's turf track will be the scene of the Grade 3 Singspiel Stakes this Saturday, June 23rd. A purse of $150,000 is on the line for horses three years old and upward willing to race 1 ½ miles on Woodbine's turf track.
The Singspiel is race 8 on Woodbine's Queen's Plate card with a post time of 4:16 PM. A strong field of seven has been entered - let's take a look brief glimpse into what brought these seven to this Grade 3 event.
2012 Singspiel Stakes Race Favorites
Simmard - Roger Attfield pupil most recently won the Grade 3 Louisville Handicap in impressive fashion to follow a third in the Grade 2 Elkhorn and the in Grade 2 Pan American Stake at Gulfstream on March 24th . Simmard nosed out Newsdad to win the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes on February 26th to open 2012 and had a second to Muskatier at the McKnight Handicap in November to close out 2011. Simmard also holds an impressive second in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Stakes at Woodbine in September and was fourth in this race last year. Sandwiched around the impressive results is a 13th in the Canadian International Stakes October 16th. Placing in all five recent graded stakes starts certainly makes Simmard a name to watch this week.
Muskatier - The other Roger Attfield entry Muskatier is a six time graded stakes winner and comes into the Singspiel having won this race in 2009 and 2011. Muskatier makes his 46th start on Sunday looking for his 11th win. Muskatier had a good 2011 winning three graded stakes races but last time out he finished fourth in the Grade 2 Elkhorn Stakes and before that was a third at the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes at Gulfstream on February 26th. At the end of 2011 Muskatier won the Grade 3 W.L. McKnight Handicap at Calder on November 26th. Prior to those results, Muskatier was a disappointing 6th in the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine and had a pair of fifths in Grade 2 events at Woodbine as well. He has been inconsistent but loves this race and should be a factor again on Sunday.

Solitaire has been here before and will be looking to finally break through.
