Valedictory Stakes at Woodbine
Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Valedictory Stakes is on tap for Woodbine Race Track in suburban Toronto this Sunday, December 16 - the final day of the Ontario and Canadian racing seasons. Horses three years old and upward will be after their share of the $100,000 purse when they go 1 3/4 miles on Woodbine's main track.
The Valedictory has attracted a field of nine for race 11 on Woodbine's Sunday schedule. Post time is 5:56 PM. Here is a look at the credentials of all nine combatants and what brought them to this Grade 3 race.
2012 Valedictory Stakes Race Favorites
Peyton - raced some big races on this track this year with some unflattering results including a thirteenth in the Queen's Plate, a tenth in the Breeders' Stakes and a sixth in the Grade 3 Ontario Derby. But Peyton is coming off a 2 1/4 length high-priced Allowance score last time out here November 23 for his only win in the last 18 months and will have the most successful jockey at Woodbine this year, Luis Contreras in the saddle Sunday.
Get A Grip - Irish bred entry has just two second place finishes in 10 starts this year - both of those results coming in the last two starts - an Allowance last time out behind Peyton and a Starter Allowance two back. Sunday marks Get A Grip's graded stakes debut and will be losing to snap a 14 race losing streak but enters in so-so form.
Valedictory Stakes 2012 | Remaining Field Entries
Quaesitor - finished fourth in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie in July and followed that with a respectable third in the Breeders' Stakes here in August. Since then a quartet of Allowance races has produced a pair of wins and two third place finishes including a third last time out after tiring in a race that Peyton won and Get A Grip finished second.
Heathcote - has six career starts with three wins to start his career, a fourth and two second place finishes - both of the seconds coming in Allowance races at Woodbine the last couple of months. He has shown terrific form in the past and will be looking to get back to that form in his stakes debut this Sunday.

The Original Scotty - has nine career starts, all this year and has placed in all but one. He had an Allowance score two back and followed that with a second last time out in another Allowance November 11. He takes an enormous step up from the Ontario-bred allowance company he's been keeping but he has looked good in placing in his last five starts.
Imperial Pippin - Boll Mott pupil, the lone filly in the race had a decent career in Europe before coming to North America where she has recorded a win (in an Allowance in June, a second (last time out in the Maple Leaf Stakes to Smart Sting), a third two back and a pair of fifths including the Grade 3 Glens Falls Stakes at Saratoga September 3.
So Long George - will be racing for the first time in stakes company in the Valedictory but comes in having won three of four and five of seven races - all Allowance and Claiming scores on this track.
Political Fever - has just four career starts - two this year with one win to show for it. That win came in a Maiden Claiming last time out on this track November 11.
Attendant - stakes placed gelding takes a step up in his graded stakes debut Sunday. He raced to an OK third in the Toronto Cup Stakes four back and had a second and two third place Allowance finishes since. Attendant has one win, one second and five third place finishes in 11 career starts.
