Las Vegas, NV -- The 38th running of the $150,000 Grade 2 La Canada Stakes comes our way on Sunday, January 22nd at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The race features four-year-old fillies and it covers a distance of 1 1/16 miles on Santa Anita's main track.

A field of eight will take part in the La Canada - a race that features only two previous graded stakes winners: Great Hot and May Day Rose. Despite the lack of graded stakes winners, a solid field will contest the $150,000 purse on a typically busy day at Santa Anita.

The Contenders:

Great Hot - One of two graded stakes winners in the field, Great Hot won the Grade 2 Keeneland Rave Run Stakes last year and most recently finished third in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes on December 31st. She raced this distance, on this track last fall in a third place finish at the Grade 1 Lady's Secret Stakes.

May Day Rose - May Day Rose is the most recognizable filly in the field with wins in five of nine starts but hasn't won in her last four starts. The Bob Baffert trained filly has two graded stakes victories to her name including the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes on this same track over the same distance a year ago.

Tiz Flirtatious - Tiz Flirtatious has shown well recently with three straight wins but La Canada marks her first race around two turns. La Canada is a good test for the Marty Jones trained filly and will prove whether she is graded stakes material.

The Others:

Capital Plan - The La Canada will be Capital Plan's stakes debut but the filly comes into the race having won two straight allowance tries, one being a race over 1 1/16 miles at Hollywood Park. Capital Plan will have accomplished Rafael Bejarano in the saddle for this race.

Big Tiz - has only one win to her name but has been up against the likes of Turbulent Decent and May Day Rose in her racing career. It will be only her second start after a seven month layoff and she'll will be ridden by Corey Nakatani.

Include Me Out - Most recently raced in the competitive La Brea Stakes at this track and finished fifth. Include Me Out is certainly a long shot at La Canada as she will be racing two turns for the first time.

Love Theway Youare - recently finished fourth in the Grade 2 Hollywood Bayakoa Handicap for trainer Myung Kwon Cho and is another long shot at La Canada.

Miss Radiance - Miss Radiance will make her stakes debut on Sunday with David Romero Flores in the saddle.

The La Canada Stakes is Race 8 on Santa Anita's Sunday card with a Post Time of 4:07 PM PT.
