Ruffian Handicap at Aqueduct Racetrack

Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Ruffian Handicap is on tap for this Saturday, April 6 from Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, New York as part of a card that includes the main event - the Grade 1 Wood Memorial. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be featured as they go one mile on Aqueduct's main track for a purse of $250,000.

2013 Ruffian Handicap Race Favorites

Funnys Approval - made her stakes debut in the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie Handicap last time out at Laurel Park February 16 and won in impressive style after three wins and two third place finishes in seven previous career starts. She comes into the Ruffian having won four straight - two Allowance scores at Mountaineer, a MSW on that same track and the Barbara Fritchie. Who is going to slow down this Jose Lopez filly? She is four-for-four on this surface in her career!

My Wandy's Girl - had 11 starts last year for trainer Michael Hushion with an incredible nine wins, a second and a third place finish - that coming in the Grade 1 Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct November 23. Included in the wins are the Grade 1 Dia de los Padres Stakes and the Grade 2 Roberto Clemente Stakes in Puerto Rico before a win in her North American debut in the Pentelis Stakes here November 15. Last time out was a very respectable second behind Funnys Approval in the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie Stakes at Laurel Park February 16.

Withgreatpleasure - had runner-up finishes in four straight minor stakes races including the Affectionately Stakes at Aqueduct January 26 and the Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes behind Onepointhreekarats December 22. She broke that streak with an OK third in the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie Handicap behind Funnys Approval and My Wandy's Girl February 16 and followed that with a disappointing sixth in the Grade 2 Top Flight Handicap here March 2. Last time out she won a Handicap at Charles Town March 19. She has just six wins in 30 career starts with 11 seconds and three third place finishes.

Twice the Lady - won the minor Affectionately Stakes two back on this track for trainer Anthony Dutrow and followed that with a good second last time out here in the Grade 2 Top Flight Handicap. Before those stakes races she had four Allowance Optional Claiming starts and generated a win, a second and a third place finishes. She has 21 career starts with six wins, seven seconds and three third place finishes.

Onepointhreekarats - H. Graham Motion mare has four wins, three seconds and a third place finish in 10 career starts. Last time out was a disappointing seventh in the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie after win in the minor Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes over Bold Affair here December 22 in her stakes debut and a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming scores in the fall. She will be looking to bounce back after her worst performance in quite some time this Saturday but will be up against some talent that soundly beat her in the Barbara Fritchie.

Centrique - has 21 career starts but Saturday marks Centrique's stakes debut. She had two straight wins in December and January here and since has raced three straight Allowance Optional Claiming races on this track finishing fourth last time out, third two back and second February 15.
