Las Vegas, NV - Empire Classic Showcase day goes down at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York this Saturday, October 19. Seven stakes races will be contested (none of the graded stakes variety) on what looks like a packed card. The Bertram F. Bongard Stakes features Two Year Olds Foaled In New York State And Approved By The New York State-Bred Registry. It is a seven furlong dash with a $150,000 purse.

2013 Bertram F. Bongard Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Wired Bryan - has been very impressive in his short career - winning three of five career starts. Last time out was an easy win by seven lengths in the six furlong New York Breeders' Futurity at Finger Lakes September 28 after a disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes September 2. Before that was a second behind Corfu in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special here August 11, a terrific win in the Grade 2 Sanford Stakes July 21 and a 5 furlong MSW score by 7 1/4 lengths in his debut at Belmont Park June 19. Former assistant to Todd Pletcher - trainer Michael Dilger trains Wired Bryan who is the overwhelming 6-5 favorite. Javier Velazquez will be in the saddle from the far outside post Saturday.

Sol the Freud - David Cannizo trained colt has just two career starts - a MSW score in his debut at Saratoga August 2 followed by a third in his stakes debut last time out - the ungraded Law Enforcement Stakes on that same track August 30. he departs from post 5 Saturday at 4-1 odds.

Fox Rox - finished third most recently behind Wired Bryan in the New York Breeders' Futurity September 28 after a win in the restricted Aspirant Stakes at Finger Lakes September 2. Before that were two MSW races to start his career which resulted in a fourth and a second respectively. he is one of three stakes winner in the field and is 5-1 on the morning line.

So Lonesome - Thomas Bush trained gelding ahs two career starts - a MSW score in his debut and a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out on this track September 26. he will have Javier Castellano in the saddle from post 4 Saturday and is being sent off at 8-1 odds.

Sing the Dream - debuted July 21 and finished fifth in a MSW at Saratoga but has won his other two career starts - a MSW at Penn National September 13 and by 7 3/4 lengths in the restricted Tin Cup Chalice Stakes at Finger Lakes September 28. He rides a two race win streak into this weekend, is just one of three stakes winners in the field and is 10-1 on the morning line.

Empire Dreams - Thomas Albertini trained colt broke maiden last time out in his third career start on this track September 29 after a second and a fourth respectively in a pair of MSW races at Saratoga. He departs from post 6 Saturday at 10-1 odds.

Carolinian - has dive career starts with two wins and two seconds but Saturday marks his stakes debut. He comes into the Bongard on a two race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out on this track September 26 and a MSW also here September 12. He departs from the rail Saturday and is listed at 12-1 odds.

Captain Toews - finished third last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track September 26 after a Maiden Claiming score in his debut September 8. He is the longest shot in the field at 20-1 odds and leaves from post 7.
