Better Lucky - won the Grade 1 Matriarch at 35-1 odds to conclude her 2012 campaign and was an OK third in her first start of 2013 - in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes behind Centre Court among others at Keeneland April 13. Last time out she continued to look good - a second to Stephanie's Kitten in the Grade 1 Just a Game Stakes on this track in June. She has placed in four straight starts - all Grade 1 stakes. If there is one thing we know about Better Lucky it is that she will be competitive each and every time out. She is the 9-5 favorite on the morning line and rightfully so, she carries the top weight of 123 pounds and she departs from post 3 with Javier Castellano aboard.
Hungry Island - Shug McGaughey trainee won the Grade 2 Churchill Distaff Mile in May 2012 and followed that up with a decent third in the 2012 Just a Game Stakes a month after that. She was a disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Diana Stakes last July but looked good after that - a second in the 2012 Ballston Spa, a third in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes, a win in an Allowance at Keeneland April 7, a third in the 2013 Just a Game Stakes behind Better Lucky to follow a respectable second in the 2013 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile May 4. Last time out was her first off-the-board finish in over a year - a fourth in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa at Saratoga August 24. Hungry Island is the second choice on the morning line at 2-1 odds and departs from the outside post with John Velazquez in the saddle.
Laugh Out Loud - British bred filly made her North American debut with a sixth in the Grade 1 Just a Game Stakes here June 8 after recording four wins, a second and a third place finish in 10 career starts overseas including a Group 2 Stakes win in June of last year for her best ever result. Last time out was a third in the minor De La Rose Stakes at Saratoga August 3. She has a few backers and is being sent off as the 5-1 third choice Saturday.
Naples Bay - had a 4 1/4 length win in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Monmouth Park last August 17 and followed that with a nice win in the 2012 version of this race last September. She had an ugly seventh in the minor Lady Baltimore Stakes at Laurel Park in October but bounced back with a good third in the Grade 3 My Charmer Handicap at Calder way back on November 22. She has three starts in 2013 - a good second last time out in the Grade 3 Matchmaker at Monmouth Park July 28, a fifth in the Grade 3 Dr. James Penny Handicap July 2 and a fifth in the Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes at Belmont Park May 4. She has not won since this race last year and she departs from the rail as the 6-1 co-fourth choice with Garrett Gomez in the saddle.
