Peter Pan Stakes 2013 at Belmont Park
Las Vegas, NV - It's a pretty slow week in the world of North American graded stakes action to follow a scintillating Kentucky Derby weekend. On Saturday, May 11 the Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes comes our way from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Three year olds will be featured in this 1 1/8 mile race as they chase their share of the $200,000 purse on Belmont Park's dirt track.
The Peter Pan has attracted a field of 11 three year olds to go in race 9 on Belmont Park's Saturday card. Post time is 5:17 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all 11 combatants for this Grade 2 stakes - many of which will be using the Peter Pan as a tune-up for the Belmont Stakes June 8.
2013 Peter Pan Stakes Race Favorites
Declan's Warrior - Nicholas Zito pupil has four career stars with three wins - last time out in impressive style in the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct April 6, a MSW in his debut at Belmont Park October 18 and in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream March 6. His other career result was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream February 9. He stretches out to 1 1/8 miles for the first time but is still the morning line favorite for the Peter Pan.
Abraham - Todd Pletcher pupil had a good third at the Grade 2 Sunland Derby at Sunland Park March 24 after breaking maiden February 16 in his second career start and finishing second in a MSW in his debut. Last time out was a decent fourth in the Grade 3 Illinois Derby at Hawthorne April 20. He figures to be right in the mix Saturday and could help ease Todd Pletcher's Derby hangover.
Peter Pan Stakes 2013 | Remaining Field Entries
Incognito - has raced four times already in 2013 all at Aqueduct for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin and enters the Peter Pan on a two race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming April 13 and a MSW score March 16. Before that was a second and a third respectively in a pair of MSW races. He makes his stakes debut Saturday.
Saint Vigeur - Chad Brown trained colt enters the Peter Pan on a two race win streak - his only two wins in a five race career. Last time out was an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Aqueduct April 11 after breaking maiden at Gulfstream January 8. His only stakes action came in October - a fifth in the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes on this track October 8.
Battier - Impressive Todd Pletcher trained colt has six career starts with four wins and two second place finishes. He is coming off a win in the minor Fit to Fight Stakes at Aqueduct April 7 after a second in the Private Terms Stakes at this distance behind Mr. Palmer at Laurel Park in March. He races in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday and has been at or near the top in every career start.
My Name Is Michael - shipped in from Woodbine for the Sam F. Davis Stakes February 2 and finished a very respectable third after four starts in Ontario yielded a win, a second and a third place finish. He was a good second in the minor Display Stakes December 1 in his stakes debut at Woodbine and followed that with his worst career effort - an eighth in the Grade 3 Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park March 23 before a seventh last time out in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes last time out at Keeneland. He hasn't been great lately but is still one of the more accomplished entries for the Peter Pan.
Freedom Child - made his stakes debut in the Wood Memorial with a tenth place finish April 6 after four MSW races. He broke maiden two back in wire-to-wire fashion by 5 1/4 lengths at Gulfstream March 10 after a third, a second and an eighth respectively to start his career.
