Las Vegas, NV - Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey will be the scene of the Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks this Saturday, August 10. A purse of $100,000 will be on the line for three year old fillies willing to go 1 1/16 mile on Monmouth's dirt track.
A group of eight three year old fillies has been confirmed for the Monmouth Oaks - race 11 on Monmouth Park's Saturday schedule. Post time is 5:59 PM. Let's take a brief look into the past performances of all eight entries for this Grade 3 stakes - only one of which has posted a stakes score in her career.
Seaneen Girl - won the Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes back in November after a second in the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine in October. She had an OK third in the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks March 30 after a four month layoff and followed that with an ugly ninth in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks. She has raced three straight Grade 3 stakes - a seventh in the Regret Stakes at Churchill Downs June 15, a good second in the Iowa Oaks June 29 and last time out a sixth in the Arlington Oaks. She has been inconsistent in her career but is the only stakes winner in the field. Saturday looks like a good opportunity to break a slump that dates back to November 24.
Lucky Rag Doll - has four career starts - all on this track and enters the Monmouth Oaks on a two race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming July 19 and a MSW July 3. Her other two career starts resulted in a third and a second respectively in a pair of MSW races in the last three months. She is the best of the local entries for the Monmouth Oaks and should be in the mix on the only track she has ever raced on.
Makayla's Angel - H. Graham Motion trained filly races for just the sixth time Saturday after her first four career starts generated two wins and a third place finish. She had a two race win streak earlier this summer - an Allowance June 12 at this distance and a MSW May 22 but most recently finished an OK fourth in her stakes debut - the competitive Grade 2 Delaware Oaky July 13.
Alli Leigh - made her graded stakes debut and finished sixth in the Grade 2 Delaware Oaks last time out for trainer Steve Asmussen having won two of her last three starts - a MSW at Oaklawn March 3 and an Allowance on that same track in April. She had a respectable third in the minor Go for Wand Stakes June 15 as well. She has two wins, a second and two third place finishes in eight career starts and has the experience, not necessarily the results just yet in her career.
Zenzarra - John Servis trained filly is coming off her worst career effort - a seventh in the minor Revidere Stakes on this track June 23. She placed in her previous five starts however including a third in the minor Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico May 17 and a pair of wins (an Allowance Optional Claiming in April and a MSW in February). She switches to turf Saturday and has evidently looked good in workouts ahead of the Monmouth Oaks.
C C Gold - has four career starts for trainer Lawrence Murray but makes her stakes debut Saturday. She has two wins in her career - last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Delaware Park July 1 and a MSW in her debut.
Mr Hall's Opus - Kelly Breen trained filly started her career in May 2012 and broke maiden in that race and followed that with a fourth in the minor Sorority Stakes on this track last September. She followed that with an Allowance Optional Claiming score three weeks later and then was forced to the sidelines for 10 months. She returned July 25 to a fourth place finish in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Delaware Park. She will be looking to regain her pre-layoff form this week.
Mary Bernice - has 10 career starts with only one win but that came last time out in a MSW at Presque Isle Downs July 2. She has placed in three of seven starts this year but takes a huge leap up in competition Saturday in her stakes debut.
