2013 Philip H. Iselin Stakes Race Favorites

Last Gunfighter - Chad Brown trained colt had a six race win streak snapped last time out with a respectable second in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap behind Flat Out at Belmont Park July 7 with a career best 103 Beyer Speed Figure. The wins include two minor stakes scores - the Evening Attire at Aqueduct January 19 over Isn't He Perfect and the Raymond Earl Stakes by 4 3/4 lengths December 9 also at Aqueduct. He also won the Grade 3 Pimlico Special May 17 by an impressive 4 1/2 lengths after a win in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Excelsior Stakes at Aqueduct March 23. He has placed in all 11 career starts - those six wins, three seconds and two third place finishes and is one of the hottest horses in the land ahead of Sunday's action. He is the unquestioned favorite and the one everyone will be chasing in the Philip Iselin.

Pants On Fire - won the minor Skip Away Stakes at Monmouth in May but was sixth as favorite after that in the Delta Mile Stakes at Delta Downs November 17. He started 2013 with a third in the Hal's Hope January 13 went on to an Allowance Optional Claiming score February 15 and another pair of thirds - the Grade 3 Skip Away Stakes in March and the minor Mountainview Handicap at Penn National June 1. Last time out was another terrific win on this track - the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup July 28. He has been terrific on this track and should challenge for top spot on Sunday.

San Pablo - Todd Pletcher trainee is the defending champion in this race by 3 1/2 lengths as part of a year in which he won five time (four minor stakes races). He has three starts in 2013 - a second in the minor Essex Handicap in February, a disappointing sixth in the Grade 3 Razorback Handicap in March and a nice win last time out by 3 1/2 lengths over Hymn Book and Mucho Mach Man in the minor Criminal Type Stakes at Belmont Park June 14. He looked excellent last time out defeating a pair of Grade 1 winners ahead of this repeat attempt.

Raging Daoust - made his graded stakes debut with a terrific win last time out in the Grade 3 Salvator Mile on this track at 33-1 odds July 6 after having won three previous starts including an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track June 8. Before that was a fifth in his only other stakes action - in the minor Decathlon Stakes also here May 11. Raging Daoust has nine wins, two seconds and three third place finishes in 19 career starts. He likely won't go off at 33-1 odds again!

Percussion - Todd Pletcher pupil raced 11 straight Allowance Optional Claiming races and had two straight wins both at Aqueduct in March and April. He stepped up four back and finished a decent fourth in the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic April 20 and followed that with his first ever stakes score - the minor Albert the Great Stakes in May on this track over Fast Falcon and Birdrun. Last time out was a disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap after a good second in the Grade 2 Brooklyn Handicap June 7.

Whatthecatdrugin - Tevis McCauley trained gelding has looked very good the last 20 months in winning eight of 13 starts while finishing second four times and third once over that span. Most of those results were against lesser competition however - two seconds in her last two starts represent the only stakes action of his 30 race career. He was second in the minor West Virginia Governor's Stakes August 3 and second in the minor Independence Day Stakes July 2 - both results at Mountaineer. But Sunday marks a huge step up in competition.

Jaguar Paw - races in graded stakes company for the first time Sunday but is coming off a win in the minor Three Coins Up Stakes by 5 3/4 lengths June 14 at Belmont Park after an Allowance Optional Claiming score in May. He has five wins in 20 career starts with three of those wins coming in his last four starts overall.

Margano - enters the Philip Iselin on a two race win streak - the minor Eight Thirty Stakes last time out by an impressive 12 3/4 lengths at Delaware Park July 8 and an Allowance Optional Claiming June 7. He has eight starts in 2013 with three wins, a second and a third place finish but hasn't line up in a graded stakes race since a fourth place finish in the Grade 3 Hill Prince in June 2012. He has just four wins in 18 career starts with five seconds and a third place finish.
