Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Iowa Derby is on tap for the Saturday, June 29 from Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa. A group of three year olds will be after their share of the $250,000 purse when they go 1 1/16 miles on Prairie Meadows main track.

A field of seven three year old will line up in the Iowa Derby - race 7 on Prairie Meadows Saturday schedule. Post time is 9:18 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all seven entries for this Grade 3 stakes - all seven will be looking for their first graded stakes win Saturday.

2013 Iowa Derby Race Favorites

Manando - Bob Baffert entry has nine career starts with two wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming by 7 1/4 lengths May 3 and a MSW in December. He's also had a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Santa Anita in March and four fourth place finishes. His graded stakes results were a good third in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes at Santa Anita January 5 with a Beyer Speed Figure of 91, a disappointing ninth in the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate in February and another OK third last time out in the Grade 3 Affirmed Handicap at Hollywood Park June 2. He has placed in eight of nine career starts but has yet to break through against top competition. Manando is the morning line favorite at 2-1 odds and starts from post 5.

Our Double Play - Kenneth McPeek trained colt is coming off a win in the minor Prairie Mile Stakes on this track June 1 over Bashaar - his second straight win. Before that was an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Churchill Downs May 4. He has six starts this year with three wins and a third place finish and enters the Iowa Derby in the best form of his short career. He starts from the rail at 5-2 odds.

Bashaar - Daniel Petz trained colt broke maiden at Oaklawn Park in March and followed that with his only other career victory - an Allowance Optional Claiming also at Oaklawn April 4. He made his stakes debut next and finished ninth in the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes May 3 and was an OK second last time out in the minor Prairie Mile Stakes here June 1. He has two wins and a second place finish in seven career starts - all of those results coming in his last four starts.

Looking Cool - has two wins and two second place finishes in nine career starts but has yet to post a victory in stakes action. Last time out was an eighth in the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes June 15 at Churchill Downs after a second in the minor Northern Spur Stakes at Oaklawn Park April 13. He is the fourth choice on the morning line at 5-1 odds.

Betweenherandcool - Steve Asmussen pupil enters on a two race win streak - a MSW at Oaklawn Park in April and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Churchill Downs June 2. He has five career starts with two wins and a second place finish.

Stormdriver - finished third to Dry Summer and Show Some Magic in the Mine That Bird Derby at Sunland Park February 23 after a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Sunland Park. Last time out was a nice Allowance score after a fifth in his graded stakes debut March 24 in the Grade 3 Sunland Derby. He has two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in nine career starts and starts from the far outside at 10-1 odds in the Iowa Derby.

Kale's Kourage - Kelly Von Hemel trained colt races in stakes company for the first time Saturday but enters on a two race win streak - both Allowance Optional Claiming races in the spring. He has three wins and a second place finish in six career starts but is the longest shot in the field Saturday at 12-1 odds.
