2013 Santa Monica Stakes Race Favorites

Kindle - has nine career starts with four wins including two of her last four - one coming in the Bangles and Beads Stakes at Fairplex Park September 21 and the other in the Cool Air Stakes at Hollywood Park November 23 over Broken Dreams. Her other two races in the last four resulted in a pair of seconds - in the Grade 3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes behind Broken Dreams at Santa Anita October 20 just ahead of Byrama and the Grade 2 Monrovia Stakes behind the impressive Breeders' Cup Champ Mizdirection last time out at Santa Anita January 6. Kindle is winless in her last three starts on this track but switches back to a more comfortable dirt surface, and even though the Santa Monica is her first try at seven furlongs she has to be the favorite Saturday.

Sugarinthemorning - had six starts in 2012 with four second place finishes - the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo two back, the Grade 2 A Gleam three back, the Fran's Valentine Stakes in May and the 2012 version of this race on January 28 in a race that Home Sweet Aspen won.. Last time out was a disappointing seventh as 6-5 favorite in the John Deere California Cup Distaff October 13. Sugarinthemorning either finishes out of the money or in second place lately - hopes are that she can break through Saturday after failing to register a win in her last nine starts and avenge her worst result in nearly two years.
