Las Vegas, NV - Another weekend of graded stakes action is in the books - there was even Monday races to keep your obsession fulfilled! Santa Anita in Arcadia, California hosted a trio of important under-the-radar Grade 2 races this past weekend - Gulfstream and the Florida Sunshine Millions stole a little thunder from the California track this week. Here is a look at what happened at Santa Anita on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Palos Verdes Stakes at Santa Anita Results

The Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes at Santa Anita on January 19 saw the 21-1 longest shot Sahara Sky upset the field and win the six furlong event for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer in his graded stakes debut. Doug O'Neill trained Private Zone finished second while Justin Phillip, one of three entries sent off as a slight favorites at 5-2 odds finished third. Comma to the Top finished a disappointing fourth, 2 1/2 lengths behind third place Justin Phillip, Canonize was fifth, Drill was an ugly sixth and Apriority was seventh.

La Canada Stakes at Santa Anita Results

The $150,000 Grade 2 La Canada Stakes was contested Sunday, January 20 at Santa Anita - a 1 1/16 mile event for four year old fillies. Third choice More Chocolate, sent off at 5-1 odds posted a 1 3/4 length win in her first career start on dirt. 7-5 second choice Book Review coming off a tight victory over Reneesgotzip and My Miss Aurelia in the seven-furlong Grade 1 La Brea Stakes last month, was a clear second by 2 1/4 lengths over Willa B Awesome. Narrow 6-5 favorite Lady of Fifty, the 123-pound highweight, was a disappointing fourth after floating wide leaving the far turn and failing to muster much of a charge. Ubelongtomemissy and Open Water completed the order of finish.

Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita Results

The Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes went down at Santa Anita Monday and featured the newly minted Eclipse Award winner and recent Breeders' Cup Champion Beholder who won the Eclipse for two year old fillies. But it was Renee's Titan who stunned the 1-5 heavy favorite at the wire and won her first graded stakes race. Beholder held off Dawn's Choice for second. Switch to the Lead, Imwiththeblonde, Lady Rosamond, and Small Moves completed the order of finish.
