Las Vegas, NV - Belmont Park in Elmont, New York will play host to the Grade 3 Vagrancy Handicap this Saturday, May 17. Fillies and mares four years old and upward will take to Belmont Park's main track and dash 6 1/2 furlongs for a purse of $150,000.
A field of six have been confirmed for the Vagrancy Handicap - race 10 on Belmont Park's Saturday card. Post time is 5:38 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all six entries for this Grade 3 stakes.
Kauai Katie - impressive Todd Pletcher trained filly hit the track for the first time since an uber-disappointing sixth in the Grade 1 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga way back on July 27 and finished a good second to La Verdad in the Grade 2 Distaff Handicap at Aqueduct April 19. She had a third in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park in May, 2013 before her career worst sixth. She has won six of 10 career starts including the Matron Stakes at Belmont Park September 30 and the Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga August 12 before that. She was an OK fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in November, 2012 but went on a run after that - three straight wins in 2013 include the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes January 1, the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes January 26 and the minor Road Princess Stakes in gate-to-wire fashion April 21 at Aqueduct. She hopes to get back to her early 2013 form and build on a good result last time out. Irad Ortiz rides from post 4 as the overwhelming 3-5 morning line favorite.
Five Star Momma - had consecutive seconds - to Groupie Doll in the Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie and the minor Willa On the Move Stakes at Laurel Park December 28 before an OK third last time out after setting the pace in the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream March 22. She had three straight wins (two minor stakes) to close out her 2013 campaign and enters this weekend in career best form - three wins, two seconds and a third in her last six starts overall. Jose Ortiz will be in the saddle from gate 5 in the Vagrancy as the 3-1 second choice on the morning line.
Merry Meadow - Mark Hennig trained filly enters off a fourth in her graded stakes debt - the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie at Laurel Park February 22 after two wins and a second in her previous three starts - the wins came in February and in December in Allowance Optional Claiming races at Aqueduct - the second came in a Starter Stakes on that same track December 27. She has 19 career starts with four wins, nine seconds and four third place finishes and will be looking to better her initial graded stakes start. Rajiv Maragh has the mount from post 2 at 6-1 odds.

Lion D N A - Rudy Rodriguez trained mare made her graded stakes debut April 19 and finished fifth in the Grade 2 Distaff Handicap at Aqueduct. Before that she had 29 career starts with eight wins, six seconds and four third place finishes. She did have three straight wins at Aqueduct this past winter - the minor Correction Stakes February 1, the minor Interborough Stakes January 1 and a Starter Optional Claiming in December but had a fifth in a Starter Allowance before her graded stakes debut February 17. She has three wins and three seconds in her last eight starts with two fifths in her last two starts overall. Lion D N A is 10-1 on the morning line and leaves from the rail with Cornelio Velazquez aboard in so-so form.
Mama Zee - will make her stakes debut Saturday for trainer Rudy Rodriguez having posted three wins and three seconds in 10 career starts. She is coming off a second in a Starter Allowance at Aqueduct April 24 after a win in a similar race March 27 and another second in a Starter Allowance March 6. She will have Manuel Franco in the reins from the 3-hole at 15-1 odds.
Jane of All Trades - Kiaran McLaughlin trained filly races in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday having finished off-the-board in five of her last six starts - the last being an eighth in the minor Hollywood Beach Stakes at Gulfstream April 12. Before that was an Allowance Optional Claiming score on that same track March 6, an eighth in another Allowance Optional Claiming in January and a sixth in a similar race in December. She has three wins, a second and two third place finishes in 14 career starts and looks to be overmatched in this one. Jose Lezcano gets the call from the outside post Saturday as the longest shot in the field - 20-1 odds.
