Vosburgh Invitational Stakes 2014 at Belmont Park

Las Vegas, NV - Super Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York takes place September 27. A total of five Grade 1 stakes will be contested on that day - one being the Vosburgh Invitational Stakes - a six furlong test for horses three years old and upward that want a chance at the winner's share of the $400,000 purse and a paid berth into the Breeders' Cup Sprint.

The Vosburgh has attracted a field of eight older entries to go in race 8 on Belmont Park's packed Saturday schedule. Post time is 4:41 PM. Here is a brief look into the past performances of all eight combatants for this Grade 1 stakes.

2014 Vosburgh Invitational Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Palace - impressive Linda Rice trained colt has three wins and two seconds in six starts this year - a fourth in the Grade 3 General George Handicap in February being his only off the board finish. Last time out was a nice victory in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes August 30 which followed a win in the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap August 2, a second behind Clearly Now in the Grade 3 Belmont Sprint Championship July 5 and a win in the Grade 2 True North Stakes in June. He has six wins and three seconds in his last 10 starts overall - as competitive as they come right now. Cornelio Velasquez gets the mount aboard the 2-1 morning line favorite from the rail Saturday looking to keep an impressive run going.

Happy My Way - has 16 career starts with six wins, three seconds and two third place finishes - three wins and two seconds in five starts this year. Last time out was a second in the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap at Saratoga August 2 which followed a nice three race win streak - the best win coming in the Grade 3 Maryland Sprint Handicap in May - his graded stakes debut. Happy My Way has been terrific in 2014 and won't sneak up on anybody anymore. Joe Bravo rides the 3-1 second choice from post 6.

Private Zone - Canadian bred Doug O'Neill entry had a string of four straight second place finishes including the 2012 Grade 3 Vernon Underwood, the Grade 1 Malibu and the Grade 2 Palos Verses in January, 2013 end with a ninth in the Grade 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen in March of last year. He went on to a two race win streak - the minor Pirate's Bounty Stakes at Del Mar September 4 and the 2013 Vosburgh Invitational September 28, 2013. Private Zone has just three starts since - a fourth last time out in the Grade 3 Turf Monster Handicap at Parx followed 10 months away, a second in the Grade 2 Cigar Mile and a disappointing tenth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint. Private Zone will be looking to return to his early 2013 form and repeat in this race as the 7-2 morning line third choice with Martin Pedroza aboard from post 7.

Coup de Grace - will race for the ninth time for trainer Larry Jones having won three of his last five starts - The Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes July 26, the minor Oh Say Stakes at Delaware Park July 5 and a terrific win in the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct in April - with a sixth in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens and an OK third last time out in the King's Bishop Stakes sandwiched in there. He also had a maiden win in his debut in November, an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream December 15 and a rather unsuccessful step up in competition where he finished tenth in the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes. He has been looking good the last four months and will have Kerwin Clark in the irons post 2.

Dads Caps - has 12 career starts for trainer Rudy Rodriguez with four wins, four seconds and a third place finish. He enters off an OK second in the minor Troy Stakes August 13, a fourth in the Grade 3 Belmont Sprint Championship in July, a fifth in the Grade 2 True North Stakes in June and his best career result - a win in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct April 5. He finished second in three consecutive races before that -in the Grade 3 Tom Fool Handicap March 1, the Grade 3 Toboggan Stakes February 1 and in minor Spooky Mulder Stakes in December. He has been a tad inconsistent of late but opened a few eyes with his Carter score four back. Javier Castellano gets the mount from gate 5.

Ribo Bobo - has been very good lately for trainer Jason Servis winning 13 of his last 17 starts overall including the Florida Sunshine Millions Sprint in January, the Caixa Electronica Stakes in March and the minor Decathlon Stakes in May. Last time out was a third in the minor Teddy Drone Stakes and a second in the minor Mr. Prospector Stakes. He races in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday after 54 career starts yielded 18 wins, six seconds and five third place finishes with Paco Lopez aboard from the outside post at 20-1 odds.

Zee Bros - former Bob Baffert trained colt had six career starts with two wins and a second place finish before shipping to the UAE where he had three races at Meydan, failing to place in any. Last time out was a seventh in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes at Saratoga August 30 after a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming August 13 in his North American return. He looks to place in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday when he leaves from gate 3 with Joel Rosario in the reins.

Salutos Amigos - raced in stakes company for the first time last March 9, 2013 and finished a somewhat disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita. He followed that with a fourth in the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct April 6 and a ninth in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens at Belmont Park June 8. He had his best result in quite some time last July - a third in the Grade 2 Amsterdam but fell back to earth with a seventh in the King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga. Salutos Amigos had a tidy three race win streak in the spring and has placed in three races since - thirds in the Grade 2 True North Stakes and the Belmont Sprint Championship on this track were followed by a second last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming. Irad Ortiz has the mount from post 4 as Salutos Amigos looks to keep the upward trend going.
