2014 Kent Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Divine Oath - Todd Pletcher trained colt has three wins and a second place finish in six career starts - his best result came two back - a nice win in the Grade 3 American Derby at Arlington July 12. He followed that with a sixth in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes on that same track August 16 however. Divine Oath finished a good second in the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland in April as well but followed that with a fourth in the minor Penn Mile in May. He has alternated good results with poor finishes - if the pattern holds true Divine Oath should be in for a good performance this week. He starts from the rail as the 2-1 morning line favorite with Jose Carabello in the saddle.

Cabo Cat - Mark Hennig trained colt is the most experienced of all the entries - 10 career starts with two wins, three seconds and two third place finishes. Last time out was a respectable third in the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes at Saratoga September 1 after a fourth in the minor Sir Cat Stakes in July and a nice win in the minor Manila Stakes at Belmont Park in June. That win followed a pair of good seconds in minor stakes action and a seventh in the Grade 3 Palm Beach Stakes at Gulfstream in March. Cabo Cat has been competitive in each of his last five starts and looks for his first graded stakes win Saturday. Alex Cintron rides the 3-1 morning line second choice from post 3.

Craftsman - Irish bred H Graham Motion trained colt has 10 career starts with three wins, a second and a third place finish but has placed in just one of six starts since shipping from Europe. That win happened to come on this track - the minor Nick Shuk Memorial July 19. He followed that with a seventh in the minor Better Talk Now Stakes at Saratoga August 20. Before his latest win was a tenth in the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes, a fifth in the minor Pasadena Stakes in March and a seventh in the Grade 2 El Camino Real Derby in February. Craftsman hasn't looked all that great lately except for a win two back. He will start from gate 5 at 4-1 odds looking to win his second straight race on this track.

Bashart - Michael Matz trained colt has eight career starts and is coming off four unflattering results - a fourth last time out in the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes at Saratoga September 1, a fifth in the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes August 8, a fifth in the minor Manila Stakes at Belmont Park June 28 and a sixth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. Before that was an OK second in the Grade 2 Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland October 6 and career defining win in the Grade 2 With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga last August 29. He also had a MSW score August 18 in his first try on grass. Bashart leaves from gate 6 at 6-1 on the morning line looking to get back on winning terms with Joshua Navarro in the reins.

Lafontaine - ships in from Woodbine and makes his stakes debut for trainer Elizabeth Charalamous. Last time out was a fourth against older horses in an Allowance Optional Claiming September 1 after a nice win in his stakes debut - at 18-1 odds in the $125,000 Toronto Cup Stakes July 20 and a maiden score in his fourth career start. Lafontaine failed to place in his first three starts but has looked good in three starts since - winning two and finishing fourth in the other. Steven Ronald Bahan will get the call from post 4 at an intriguing 8-1 odds.

Other Cheek - will race for just the fourth time for trainer Arnaud Delacour off a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track August 30 and a maiden score July 30. Other Cheek makes a huge step up in competition with Forest Boyce aboard the 8-1 shot from post 2.

Gadget Man - has 13 career starts already with two wins, five seconds and three third place finishes - Saturday marks his graded stakes debut. Last time out was a respectable second in the minor Charles Hesse III Handicap September 6 which followed a third in an Allowance August 16 and an Allowance score July 27 - all results at Monmouth Park. He makes his step up in competition with Julien Pimentel in the irons at 10-1 on the morning line from the outside post having placed in his last five starts overall.
