2014 Red Bank Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Slim Shadey - British bred gelding had seven starts last year and has placed in just one - a win in the 2013 San Marcos in February. He is coming off a disappointing last of five in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont Park May 9 after an equally unflattering sixth in the San Marcos February 8. Before that was an OK second behind Jeranimo in the Grade 2 San Gabriel January 4 - his only good result in a while. He had another sixth in the Grade 2 John Henry Turf, an eighth in the Grade 1 Eddie Read and still another pair of sixths in graded stakes action before that. He has five wins and five second place finishes in 34 career starts but hasn`t been great of late - to say the least. Slim Shadey has placed in just one of his last eight starts and is as shaky as they come right now. He is the most experienced of the any in this wide open field however and is expected to challenge and snap his skid. Maria Remedio gets the call from post 6. Slim Shadey is a coupled entry along with Spa City fever who is entered as a Main Track Only starter.

Winning Cause - Todd Pletcher trained colt placed in nine of 11 starts in 2013 - the best result coming April 20 - a terrific win in the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland but fell off to finish tenth in the Grade 3 Ogden Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland October 4. He has runner-up finishes in two of his last four starts - an Allowance at Keeneland April 13 and in the Grade 2 Fayette Stakes in October with a fifth in the Grade 3 Commonwealth Turf Stakes in November sandwiched in there. Last time out was a disappointing seventh in the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland April 19. Winning Cause has placed in just two of his last five starts and will have Christopher DeCarlo guiding him from post 8. Like I said - it's a wide open field!

Red Bank Stakes 2014 | Remaining Contenders

Chamois - will make his 2014 debut Saturday but did have a minor stakes score in his last race - the Duluth Stakes by 3 1/4 lengths at Aqueduct November 17. He also had another minor stakes score in September - the Stanton Stakes with a fourth in the minor Basket Wave Stakes sandwiched in between the wins. Chamois has four wins and two third place finishes in nine career start and leaves from post 5 with Joe Bravo guiding him.

Midnight Cello - is coming off a good second at 16-1 odds in the Grade 3 Miami Mile at Calder April 19 for trainer Marcus Vitali after a sixth in the Grade 3 Appleton Stakes March 29, a second to Amen Kitten in the minor Tropical Park Derby in October and another second in the minor Needles Stakes at Calder in September. He looks for his first graded stakes score Saturday having won three races, finished second three times and third three times in 13 career starts. Orlando Bocachica gets the call from the outside post.

Hard Enough - is coming off a DNF in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream March 29 after a Starter Allowance score on that same track February 27. He started her year with a twelfth in another Allowance Optional Claiming in February after a nearly seven month layoff and a respectable third in the Grade 3 Kent Stakes at Delaware Park in September. Hard Enough has five wins and four third place finishes in 19 career starts and departs from the rail with Eddie Castro in the saddle.

Roadhog - Elizabeth Merryman trainee enters having finished second in his last two starts - the minor Henry S. Clark Stakes at Pimlico April 19 and in the minor Japan Racing Association Stakes at Laurel Park in November. Before that were two minor stakes scores - the minor Maryland Million Turf Stakes in October and the minor Alphabet Soup Handicap at Parx in September. He last raced in graded stakes company in June, 2013 - a fifth in the Grade 2 Colonial Turf Cup. Roadhog has nine wins, five seconds and four third place finishes in 30 career starts and leaves from gate 3 with Paco Lopez aboard. He has been at or near the top in his last four starts and is an intriguing entry for the Red Bank.

Two Notch Road - has 15 career starts with three wins but hasn't been seen since July, 2013 when he finished eighth in the Grade 3 Oceanport Stakes on this track - which followed another eighth in the Grade 2 Colonial Turf Cup in June. He had his best graded stakes three back effort however - a third in the Grade 2 Monmouth Stakes June 9 after a fifth in the 2013 Red Bank Stakes and a seventh in the Grade 3 Jamaica Handicap in October, 2010. Two Notch Road has just four starts since 2010 and has finished off-the board in all but one. Not much is expected Saturday as he leaves from post 2 with Jose Ferrer in the saddle.

Admiral Perry - Shug McGaughey trainee has just two Allowance Optional Claiming starts this year - a fourth last time out April 24 and a second April 10 - both races at Keeneland. He ended his 2013 campaign with a fifth in the Grade 2 Kennedy Road Stakes at Woodbine after a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in October. He finished sixth in this race last year and hasn`t been great since. He departs from gate 7 with Victor Santiago aboard.

School House - makes his first start since a win in the minor With Anticipation Stakes at Delaware Park in September - after a third in the minor Cape Henlopen Stakes on that same track in August and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in July. He makes his graded stakes debut after a long layoff and will have Kendrick Carmouche in the reins from post 4.

Rose Brier - Makes his stakes debut Saturday but looks ready. He has won four of his last five starts including both in 2014 - a Starter Optional Claiming at Gulfstream March 9 and a Claiming on that same track in February. He steps up in company from gate 9 with jockey Abel Castellano Jr. in charge.

Behemoth - Main Track Only entry won the minor John B. Campbell Handicap February 22 at Laurel Park and followed that with a fourth last time out in the minor Harrison E. Johnson Memorial on that same track March 22. He may make his graded stakes debut after 31 career starts produced seven wins, five seconds and six third place finishes.

Mezzano - Main Track Only entry finished seventh in this race last year but has placed in just one of four starts since - an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Laurel Park October 9. He may make his 2014 debut Saturday off a fifth in the minor Swatara Stakes at Penn National November 27.

Spa City Fever - Main Track Only entry may make his graded stakes debut Saturday having placed in his last five starts - three Allowance Optional Claiming scores, a third in the minor Queens County Stakes at Aqueduct in December and a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out at Aqueduct April 26.
