Effie Trinket - Richard Violette trainee made her graded stakes debut November 16 and finished a very good second in the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes after winning three of her previous four starts and finishing second in the other. The wins include the minor Ticonderoga Stakes October 19, the minor John Hettinger Stakes at Belmont Park September 15 and in the minor Diamondrella Stakes at Belmont Park in July to go along with a an Allowance Optional Claiming score in May. She has looked good in 2014 as well - a second last time out in the minor Mount Vernon Stakes at Belmont Park May 31 followed a pair of decent thirds in graded stakes action - the Grade 2 Churchill Distaff May 3 and the Grade 2 Honey Fox March 14. Effie Trinket has six wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 14 career starts and has placed in 10 straight ahead of this race. She starts from post 7 as the 9-5 morning line favorite with Luis Saez aboard.
Assateague - Michael Matz trainee had a two race win streak before a fourth in the Grade 3 Noble Damsel Stakes at Belmont Park September 14 - the last coming in the minor De La Rose Stakes over Ruthenia at Saratoga August 3. She had two starts in October - a fifth in the Grade 3 Athenia and a second in the minor Finney Stakes - both on this track and then took some time off. Assateague made her 2014 debut in May - a sixth in the Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes at Belmont Park and was most recently fourth in the minor Intercontinental Stakes also on that track June 8. She has placed in just one of her last five starts and will be looking for her first win since August. Joel Rosario gets the call aboard the 5-2 morning line second choice from post 3.
Alaura Michele - Todd Pletcher trained mare has just four wins and two third place finishes in 15 career starts and is coming off a third in the minor Intercontinental Stakes at Belmont Park June 8.. Her first start this year resulted in an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream and the second was a fourth in the minor Ten Palms Stakes on the same track in February. She has four graded stakes starts in her career and has never finished higher than fifth in any. Javier Castellano will be in the reins from gate 4 Tuesday looking for Alaura Michele's' first graded stakes win at 4-1 odds.
Nellie Cashman - Francis Abbott trained mare was very good in eight starts in 2013 with two wins including the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks, three seconds including the Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes at Keeneland in October and a third - in the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga in August. She ended 2013 with her worst performance of the year however - a sixth in the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes in November and has just two starts in 2014 - a third last time out in the minor Lyphard Stakes followed a fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Pimlico in April. Nellie Cashman looks to get back to her 2013 form when she departs from gate 5 as the 9-2 morning line fourth choice with Forest Boyce aboard.
Appealing Cat - H. Graham Motion trained filly raced for the first time in nearly a year May 30 finishing fourth in the minor Lyphard Stakes at Penn National. Before the long layoff was a fifth in the Grade 3 All Along Stakes June 22 and a third in the Grade 3 Gallorette Handicap in May, 2013. She had nice second in the Grade 3 Endeavor Stakes February 2 in her graded stakes and had an Allowance score at Keeneland April 12 but hasn't been great since. She has four wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 16 career starts and makes her second start in a year Tuesday - her first graded stakes start since June, 2013. Remember Then - Jonathan Sheppard trained filly has just one start in 2014 - a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Pimlico May 25. She ended 2013 with a thirteenth in the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs in November after a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming in October and a fourth in the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington in October. Game Fair - has 18 career starts for trainer H Graham Motion with just three wins, two seconds and three third place finishes. She has placed in just one of his last four career starts however and is coming off a fourth and a sixth respectively in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming at Pimlico. She has just two graded stakes starts - both eighth place finishes at the beginning of 2013 and she did have a fifth in the minor Robert G. Dick Memorial at Delaware Park in August. Translation - she hasn't been all that effective against top competition. Angel Serpa will be in the saddle Tuesday from gate at 12-1 odds.
Rockinonthewater - has 23 career starts with three wins, six seconds and seven third place finishes but Tuesday marks her graded stakes debut. 21 of her 23 career starts have come on this very track. Last time out was a third in an Allowance June 22 after a fifth in the minor My Juliet Stakes in May and another pair of thirds in Allowance races this past winter. She did have a pair of Allowance scores in October and November and has been OK since. Rockinonthewater steps up in company as the longest shot in the field - 20-1 odds with Roberto Rosado in the irons from post 6.
