Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes goes down at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario this Saturday, April 26. A purse of $150,000 will be on the line for fillies and mares four years old and upward willing to dash six furlongs on Woodbine's All Weather track.

A field of just six older females will line up in the Whimsical Stakes - race 8 on Woodbine's Saturday card. Post time is 4:47 PM. Let's take a look into the past performances of all six combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.

2014 Whimsical Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Spring in the Air - Mark Casse trainee and Canada's champion two-year-old filly in 2012 has 12 career starts with three wins, five seconds and a third place finish. She makes her first start since September - a third in the minor La Lorgnette Stakes here after a second in the minor Wonder Where Stakes against the boys on this track in August and an OK fourth in the Queen's Plate also on this track. Before that she was a decent second in the Woodbine Oaks to Nipissing after a win in the minor Fury Stakes on this track May 4. Spring in the Air broke onto the scene with a second in the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes in September, 2012 and won the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades in October, 2012 and went on to an OK fifth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. She also raced to a ninth last April in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes. She is no stranger to top competition and knows this track better than any other. Patrick Husbands has the call from the outside post Saturday as Spring in the Air returns to a preferred sprinting distance.

Youcan'tcatchme - has 14 career starts - all on this track and has won four of her last six starts including her last two graded stakes tries - the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion Stakes November 3 (she finished second in that race in 2012) and the Grade 3 Seaway Stakes August 31. She also had a wire-to-wire win as slight favorite in the minor Etobicoke Handicap August 4 after a nearly nine month layoff. Her only blemishes last year were a respectable second in the minor Apelia Stakes October 2 and a disappointing ninth in her last start of 2013 - in the Grade 2 Bessarabian December 1. Youcan'tcatchme saddles up for the first time in 4 1/2 months Saturday looking to erase the memory of an ugly performance last time out. Justin Stein will be aboard from post 5.

Whimsical Stakes 2014 | Remaining Contenders

Goldstryke Glory - has placed in eight of nine career starts - four wins, three seconds and a third place finish and enters this week on a nice three race win streak - all on this track. Last time out was in the minor Apelia Stakes over Youcan'tcatchme October 2 after a 7 1/2 length win in the Inglorious Stakes September 2 and an Allowance in August. She hits the track for the first time in 6 1/2 months Saturday looking to keep the roll going. She is expected to bring the speed from the rail Saturday.

Mekong Delta - has 19 career starts - all at Woodbine and enters this weekend having won two of her last four starts - both Allowance races and having finished a very good second last time out in the Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes December 1. Sandwiched in there is a sixth in her stakes debut - the Grade 2 Seaway Stakes August 31. Mekong Delta has three wins, five seconds and two third place finishes and looks to keep up the momentum after a win and a second to close out her 2013 campaign. Gerry Olguin gets the call from gate 2.

Sounds of the City - Alan Goldberg trained mare has 20 career starts with four wins, four seconds and five third place finishes but raced for the first time in stakes company in May when she finished fifth in the minor Very One Stakes at Pimlico. She has three minor stakes starts since - a second in the Smart and Fancy, a third in the Klassy Briefcase and a fifth in the Sportech Caress Stakes at Saratoga August 2. She made her graded stakes debut September 9 and finished an OK fourth behind the fabulous Groupie Doll in the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters and went on to a sixth in the minor Jazzy Stakes at Belmont Park September 25. Sounds of the City returns from seven months away with Angel Serpa in the saddle from post 3.

Purely Hot - had a five race win streak to start last year and made her stakes debut finishing a very good second ahead of Judy the Beauty in the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters September 9. She followed that with a pair of fourths - in the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland October 15 and in the Bessarabian Stakes here December 1. Purely Hot ended her 2013 campaign with a disappointing tenth in the minor Holiday Inagural Stakes and has just one start this year - a third in a Starter Allowance at Keeneland April 9.
