Red Smith Handicap 2015 at Aqueduct
Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Red Smith Handicap is on tap for Aqueduct in Queens, New York this Saturday, November 14. Horses three years old and upward will be featured when they take to Aqueduct's turf track and race 1 3/8 miles for the winner's share of the $250,000 purse.

Holiday Star - won the Grade 3 Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland last time out October 15 - a race that he has now won two straight times. Before that was a second in the minor John's Call Stakes at Saratoga in August and a win in the minor Cape Henlopen Stakes at Delaware Park in July. Holiday Star now has six wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 19 career starts (two wins and a second in his last three starts overall) and will be chasing his second straight graded stakes score from gate 8 Saturday. Edgar Prado has been tabbed to ride.
Charming Kitten - Todd Pletcher pupil has 24 career starts with six wins, seven seconds and two third place finishes - no stakes win so far. He did win the Belmont Gold Cup Invitational in June, 2014 but has been just OK since. Last time out was a second behind Holiday Star in the Grade 3 Sycamore Stakes at Belmont Park October 15 after a seventh in the Grade 2 Bernard Baruch Handicap at Saratoga September 7. He also had a second in the minor Lure Stakes and an Allowance score this year. Charming Kitten has certainly been up and down but hopes to build on a decent effort last time out from the outside post 10 with John Velazquez aboard.
Mr Speaker - Shug McGaughey trained colt has six wins, a second and two third place finishes in 17 career starts. He won the Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational in July, 2014 but has been up and down since. He has looked decent lately - a third last time out in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes at Belmont Park October 10 and a win in the Grade 2 Commonwealth Cup Stakes at Laurel Park September 19. He also had a seventh in the Grade 3 Fort Marcy Stakes in May. Mr Speaker has two wins and a third place finish in his last four starts overall and looks good ahead of the weekend. St. Albans Boy - has been just OK in his career but enters in decent form. Last time out was a win in the minor Laurel Turf Cup October 31 after an OK third in the Grade 3 Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland October 15 and a fourth in the Grade 3 Kentucky Turf Cup in September. St. Albans Boy has four wins and three third place finishes in 20 career starts and will be after his first graded stakes score in his sixth try from post 4 with Elvis Trujillo aboard.
Great Dancer - Irish bred James Lawrence trained colt had an Allowance score at Saratoga in August and finished fourth in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 2 Commonwealth Derby at Laurel Park in September. He followed that with an OK third last time out in the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont Park October 3. War Dancer - had a couple of good wins early in his career - the Grade 2 Virginia Derby in July, 2013 and the Grade 3 Louisville Handicap in Man, 2014 but hasn't done a whole lot lately. War Dancer has a couple of decent runner-up finishes this year - the Grade 3 Bowling Green Handicap at Saratoga in August and the Grade 1 Man o' War Stakes at Belmont Park in May. He's enters off an ugly seventh in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes October 10 after a fourth in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer. He also had a sixth in the Grade 1 Manhattan Stakes sandwiched in there. He has 23 career starts with four wins, five seconds and four third place finishes and enters in inconsistent form. Jose Lezcano rides from post 3.
Kaigun - Mark Casse trained gelding won the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar at this time last year - he also won the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes at Woodbine in September, 2014 but hasn't posted a win this year - five starts with just two third place finishes to show for it. He enters off consecutive fourths - the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International last time out October 18 and the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile in September. Those results followed a third in the 2015 Play the King Stakes and a third in an Allowance in July. Kaigun takes a step back in class hoping for his first win in six starts - from gate 6 with Joel Rosario guiding him.
Iron Power - has just one career graded stakes start for trainer Christophe Clement - a fourth in the Grade 2 Bowling Green Handicap at Saratoga August 1. He's reeled off consecutive thirds in minor stakes action since - the Mohawk Stakes October 24 and the Ashley T Cole Stakes September 20 - both at Belmont Park. He has 25 career starts with six wins, five seconds and four third place finishes and arrives looking for his first stakes score from post 5 with Silvestre de Sousa in the saddle.
Mr Maybe - Chad Brown trained gelding makes his stakes debut Saturday after 12 career starts yielded three wins, a second and three third place finishes. He enters on a two race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont Park October 15 and an Allowance at Parx in August. He has placed in three straight and hopes to keep the roll going from post 9 with Irad Ortiz in the reins.
Catron - Main Track Only entry - Todd Pletcher trainee has nine career starts with four wins and a third place finish. He finished fourth in his only graded stakes action - the Grade 3 Gulfstream Park back in February. Catron has placed in just one of his last three starts against lesser company - a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out.
