2015 Belmont Stakes Race Favorite Entries

American Pharoah 3-5 - In 2012 it was I'll Have Another, and in 2014 California Chrome. Now in 2015, American Pharoah, will attempt to become just the 12th to win the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes - the first since Affirmed in 1978. Bob Baffert will send out the champion 2-year-old male of 2014 American Pharoah for the eighth time having posted six wins in seven career starts - the only blemish coming in his debut. He enters on a six race win streak - all graded stakes. Last time out was in the Preakness Stakes May 16 by an impressive seven lengths after a statement win in the Kentucky Derby in May 2. They followed wins in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby by an incredible eight lengths April 11, in the Graded 2 Rebel Stakes by 6 1/4 lengths in March, the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes September 27 and a terrific 4 3/4 length win in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity September 3. American Pharoah has been the most dominant horse on the planet the last eight months - most will be rooting for him Saturday! As always Victor Espinoza will get the return call aboard the overwhelming morning line favorite from post 5.

Frosted 5-1 - Kiaran McLaughlin trained colt raced in stakes company for the first time November 29 and finished a respectable second behind Leave the Light On as 9-5 favorite in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct and followed that with another good runner-up finish - behind Upstart in the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream January 24. Last time out he finished a troubled fourth in the Kentucky Derby after a huge statement with a win by two lengths in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct April 4. Before that was a somewhat disappointing fourth after looking tremendous but tiring in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream February 21. Other results include a maiden score in his third start - by an impressive 5 1/2 lengths October 30 after a pair of seconds to begin his career. That makes two wins, and four second place finishes in seven career starts with his win two starts back raising a few eyebrows. Joel Rosario has the mount aboard the morning line second choice from gate 6.

Belmont Stakes 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Materiality 6-1 - Todd Pletcher trained colt has four career starts and has won three. Last time out was his only career blemish - a sixth in the Kentucky Derby. That result followed a terrific 1 1/2 length win with a 110 Beyer Speed Figure in the Grade 1 Florida Derby March 28, an impressive 5 3/4 length score over highly regarded Stanford in the listed Islamoranda Handicap March 6 and a maiden score by 4 1/4 lengths at first asking January 11 - all results at Gulfstream. He is lightly raced but highly regarded. The legendary John Velazquez has the call on the third betting choice from the outside post 8.

Mubtaahij 10-1 - Irish bred colt had four wins and a second place finish in his last five races overseas - all at Meydan before debuting in North America. That debut was an eighth in the Kentucky Derby which followed a two race win streak - the UAE Derby by eight lengths March 28 and the Al Bastakiya Stakes three weeks earlier. He also had a third in the Group 3 UAE Two Thousand Guineas in February. Mubtaahij looks for a bounceback effort and hopes to make a little noise on North American soil this week. Irad Ortiz will be in the saddle from the rail at 10-1 odds.
