El Camino Real Derby 2015 at Golden Gate Fields

Las Vegas, NV - Golden Gate Fields, along the shoreline of San Francisco Bay will play host to the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby this Valentine's Day Saturday, February 14. Three year old Kentucky Derby hopefuls will be after the winner's share of the $200,000 purse and the 10 qualifying points toward the Run for the Roses in May when they take to Golden Gate's All Weather Track and go 1 1/8 miles.

A full field of 10 Derby hopefuls will take to the track in the El Camino Real Derby - race 7 on Golden Gate's Saturday card. Post time is 3:45 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all 10 entries for this important Grade 3 stakes.

2015 El Camino Real Derby Race Favorite Entries

Conquest Typhoon - Mark Casse pupil started his career with second place finishes in his first two races including minor Clarendon Stakes in July at Woodbine. He went on to a nice win in the Grade 2 Summer Stakes September, was second in the Grade 2 Grey Stakes October 5 and finished a respectable fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. Last time out was his second graded stakes score - the Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar November 30. Conquest Typhoon is the most experienced of all the entries and certainly the one to catch. Mike Smith has the mount on the lukewarm 7-2 favorite from post 9.

Indianaughty - Dale Romans trained colt makes his stakes debut Saturday on a two race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out at Gulfstream in his first start in North America and a five length maiden win in England in August. He will try to make it three straight wins Saturday as he step up in company with Corey Lanerie guiding him from post 2 as the 4-1 second choice.

El Camino Real Derby 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Mischief Clem - Robert Hess trained colt has three wins, a second and a third place finish in six career starts and is coming off a career best effort - a win in the minor California Cup Derby at 11-1 odds at Santa Anita January 24. This followed a fourth in the minor King Glorious Stakes at Los Alamitos in December, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming November 21 and an OK third in the minor Golden State Juvenile Stakes November 1. He will be looking to make a little noise in graded stakes company Saturday with Kent Desormeaux in the irons of the 9-2 third choice from the outside post.

Cross the Line - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt has placed in all four career starts (all on this track) and enters on a nice two race win streak. Last time out was a win in the minor California Derby January 17 after a maiden score December 26. Cross the Line has been competitive every time out and has shown steady improvement. Juan Hernandez has the call from post 5 at 5-1 odds.

Stand and Salute - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt make his graded stakes debut Saturday having posted two wins, a second and a third place finish in five career starts. He won the minor Gold Rush Stakes on this track December 26 after breaking maiden here in October as well and last time out was an OK third behind Cross the Line and Soul Driver in the minor California Derby here January 17. Stand and Salute will depart from gate 8 at 6-1 odds with Russell Baze in the saddle.

Soul Driver - has five career starts for trainer Jeff Mullins with a win and two second place finishes. He enters off consecutive runner-up finishes - behind Cross the Line as favorite in the minor California Derby here January 17 and the minor Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita December 27. Those results followed a fifth in his only graded stakes action - the Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar in November. He hopes for his first stakes win Saturday with Dennis Carr aboard the 6-1 shot from post 10.

Metaboss - Jeff Bonde trained colt makes his graded stakes debut Saturday after finally breaking maiden last time out - at Santa Anita January 4 in his fourth career start. Before that were a second in a MSW at Del Mar in November and an OK fourth in the minor Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes at Santa Anita November 1. Metaboss has placed in three of four career starts and has improved every time out and will try to keep that trend going with Alex Solis in the reins from post 3 at 8-1 on the morning line.

Ernest Shackleton - Doug O'Neill trained Irish bred colt has six career starts with two wins and a third place finish. He has four starts at home with a win and a third place finish before debuting in North America December 27 and finishing seventh in the minor Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita. Last time out was a good win however - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Santa Anita January 23. Drayden Van Dyke will ride from gate 4.

Donji - has yet to record a victory in seven career starts (all Maiden Claiming) but does have two runner-up finishes and a third. He makes an enormous leap up in competition Saturday off a third and a second respectively at Santa Anita. Not a whole lot is expected when he leaves from the rail with Pedro Terrero guiding him.

Harmonic - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt finally broke maiden last time out in his fifth career start - on this track January 16. Before that was a third place finish and three straight off-the-board finishes to start his career. Ricardo Gonzalez has been tabbed to ride from post 6.
