2015 King Edward Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Excaper - defending runner-up in this race has been just OK since. In 2015 he has three starts and failed to place in any -a fourth last time out here in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup May 30 followed a sixth in the Grade 3 Appleton Stakes March 28 and a fifth in the Grade 3 Canadian Turf Stakes in February - the last two results at Gulfstream. He ended his 2014 campaign with consecutive runner-up finishes - the minor El Prado Stakes and the minor Labeeb Stakes. Excaper won the 2014 Connaught Cup and a second in the 2013 Play the King Stakes and also had a second in the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf - he has been around for a long while. He looks for his first win in 13 months Sunday having recorded five wins, nine seconds and a third place finish in 25 career starts. Justin Stein gets the call on the only graded stakes winner in the field hoping to break a long losing streak - from post 5.

Conquest Top Gun - Mark Casse trained colt has placed in six of eight career starts - three wins, a second and two third place finishes. He made his graded stakes debut May 30 and finished a disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup on this track after an Allowance Optional Claiming score here May 9, a third in a similar race at Santa Anita April 10 and a nice win in his only other stakes action to date - the minor Victoria Park Stakes on this track last June. Conquest Top Gun will be looking to bounce back after an uncharacteristic effort last time out - Patrick Husbands gets the call from post 6.

King Edward Stakes 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Stacked Deck - has four wins and a third place finish in 10 career starts for trainer Barbara Minshall - one of those wins coming last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming in front running style - with a career best Beyer Speed Figure here May 22. That win followed two disappointing results - a tenth in the minor Jacques Cartier Stakes in April and a sixth in the Grade 2 Kennedy Road Stakes in November. He did win the minor Charlie Barley Stakes on this track a year ago so we know that he can put together a good run. David Moran has been tabbed to ride as Stacked Deck tries for his second straight win here - from the outside post 7.

Tower of Texas - Roger Attfield trained gelding will race in graded stakes company for the first time Sunday after 11 career starts produced three wins, three seconds and two third place finishes. He enters on a two race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out here May 31 followed an Allowance win May 10 also on this track. 10 months prior to the streak he had a disappointing fourteenth in the Queen's Plate, a third in the minor Plate Trial Stakes and a fourth in the minor Marine Stakes all on this track. Tower of Texas looks for his first stakes score Sunday in his first grass start from the rail with Eurico Rosa Da Silva aboard.

Eirigh - made his stakes debut November 9 and finished fifth in the Grade 2 Autumn Stakes on this track for trainer Nicholas Gonzalez after a two race win streak - an Allowance by 8 3/4 lengths October 18 and a maiden score in September. Eirigh has two starts since the Autumn - a third last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming May 29 followed a win in a similar race also on this track in December. He now has 13 career starts with three wins, a second and two third place finishes and has placed in six of his last seven starts overall. Eirigh hopes for a first stakes win Sunday from gate 2 with Jesse Campbell in the reins.

Best Bard - makes his graded stakes debut Sunday after 21 career starts yielded just two wins, seven seconds and four third place finishes. He makes his first start of the year after ending 2014 off badly - a ninth in an Allowance Optional Claiming in November followed a sixth in the minor Labeeb Stakes here in October. He did win an Allowance four starts back but hasn't been great since. Best Bard will likely be in over his head Sunday as he leaves from post 3 with Alan Garcia guiding him.

Platinum Glory - has placed in four of six career starts for trainer Michael De Paulo - a win, two seconds and a third place finish. He makes his stakes debut Sunday off a second in an Allowance here May 24, a third in a similar race on this track in November and a maiden score on this track in October in his fourth start. Platinum Glory makes an enormous step up in competition Sunday in so-so form and lines up in gate 4 with Omar Moreno in the irons.
