OffTrackBetting.com - The Grade 3 Ontario Matron Stakes comes our way this Sunday, July 17 from Woodbine Racetrack in beautiful Toronto, Ontario. A purse of $150,000 will be on the line for fillies and mares three years old and upward willing to race 1 1/16 miles on Woodbine's All Weather Track.
Nine older females will give it a go in the Ontario Matron Stakes - race 8 on Woodbine's Sunday card. Post time is 4:51 PM. Let's take a glance into the past performances of all nine combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Flipcup 5-2 - Bill Mott trained mare has seven wins, four seconds and five third place finishes in 19 career starts and has won three of her last four ahead of this weekend. She has posted five wins, a second and a third place finish in seven career starts on All Weather Tracks including wins in her last three. Last time out was a nice win in the Grade 3 Arlington Matron Stakes May 28 which followed an uncharacteristic fifth in the minor Bay Ridge Stakes at Aqueduct in December a nice win in the Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes here in October and the win in the minor Classy `n Smart Stakes also on this track in September. Flipcup has been superb the last year placing in five of six starts and is expected to be competitive again Sunday from the rail - on a track she's posted four wins, a second and a third place finish in six starts. Luis Contreras has been tabbed to ride the only graded stakes winner in the field and slight morning line favorite.
Miss Chatelaine 3-1 - lightly raced Christophe Clement trained filly has three wins and a third place finish in eight career starts - the best of which was her win in the minor Chelsea Flower Stakes at Belmont Park in October, 2014. She enters off a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont Park June 23 after a fifth on October 18 in the Grade 3 Rood and Riddle, an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Belmont Park, a sixth in the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes in August and an eighth in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational in July. Miss Chatelaine has been inconsistent indeed and will be out to place in graded stakes company for the first time in her fourth try in her first ever race on this surface. Alan Garcia has the mount on the morning line second choice from post 3.

Moon Rainbow looks for first stakes score and enters in so-so form from gate 2 with Eurico Rosa Da Silva in the saddle.

Mikes Aprise has failed to place in her last two starts - a fourth last time out in the Grade 3 Chicago Handicap at Arlington June 25 followed an eighth in the minor Mizdirection Stakes at Santa Anita May 21. She has failed to place in her last three starts overall and hopes to get back to her early-2016 form. She chases her first graded stakes score from gate 8 with Gary Boulanger aboard.
Galina Point 12-1 - has placed in 13 of 18 career starts for trainer Mark Casse - all on this track and made her graded stakes debut April 10 finishing a good second in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes. London Tower 20-1 - Steve Owens trained filly has placed in eight of 11 career starts - four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes - all on this track. She won the minor Ontario Lassie Stakes in November, 2014 and minor Fury Stakes last May and went on to a second in the Woodbine Oaks, a third in the minor Bison City Stakes July 12 and a nice win in the minor Eternal Search Stakes July 29. London Tower has failed to place in her last three starts however - an ugly ninth last time out in the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes on this track May 29 followed a fifth in an Allowance May 1, a fourth in the minor La Prevoyante Stakes in September and a respectable second in her only graded stakes action to date - the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes in August.
