2016 Play the King Stakes Race Preview at Woodbine Racetrack

Ami's Flatter 2-1 - Josie Carroll trained colt has three wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 11 career starts and enters off a fifth in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park June 11. Before that was a career best effort - a win in the Grade 3 Commonwealth Stakes at Keeneland April 9 with an impressive 105 Beyer Speed Figure, a fourth in the Grade 3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes at Gulfstream February 6, an Allowance score January 13 and an eighth in the $1 million Queen's Plate at Woodbine in July. He also had a third in the Grade 1 Florida Derby at Gulfstream in March, 2015 and a second in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby March 7 of that year. Ami's Flatter has been up and down in his career and hopes to bounce back off a disappointing effort last time out. Luis Contreras is scheduled to ride the curious morning line favorite in Ami's Flatter's turf debut from gate 6.

Conquest Enforcer 5-2 - has just four career starts for trainer Mark Casse with three nice wins - all on this track. He debuted with a fourth in the Grade 2 Summer Stakes in September and has since reeled off three straight minor stakes scores - the Charlie Barley Stakes last time out July 3, by 7 3/4 lengths in the Queenston Stakes May 21 and by 6 3/4 lengths in the Cup and Saucer Stakes in October - the latest two in gate-to-wire fashion. Conquest Enforcer has been impressive indeed and will chase his first graded stakes score from gate 2 Saturday. Patrick Husbands has the mount on the second betting choice.

Passion for Action 3-1 - has six wins, four seconds and a third place finish in 16 career starts and has won three of his last four starts ahead of this weekend. Last time out was a good victory in the Grade 2 Highlander Stakes here July 3 after a win in the Grade 3 Vigil Stakes with an impressive 103 Beyer Speed Figure here May 7, an OK second behind Dimension in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup Stakes on this track June 5 and another win in the minor Jacques Cartier Stakes on this track April 9. He's also recorded consecutive sixth place finishes at Gulfstream to start his year - the Grade 3 Canadian Turf Stakes February 27 and an Allowance Optional Claiming in January. Passion for Action has three wins and a second place finish in his last four starts overall on this track and enters in terrific form. Eurico Rosa Da Silva has been tabbed with keeping the roll going on the morning line third choice from post 5 Saturday.

Dimension 6-1 - British bred Dimension posted a win at 10-1 odds with a 102 Beyer Speed Figure in the 2013 Play the King Stakes and was OK after that - a good win in the minor Kentucky Downs Turf Dash September 24, 2014 and a third in the 2014 Grade 3 Play the King Stakes. Dimension has caught fire again this summer - consecutive wins ahead of this weekend include the Grade 2 King Edward Stakes last time out on this track July 2 and in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup Stakes here June 5. He failed to place in his previous six starts however including an eighth in an Allowance April 21, a sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming in July, a sixth in the 2015 Connaught Cup, a fifth in the minor Elusive Quality Stakes in April, 2015, a tenth in the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile and a twelfth in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. Dimension now has 33 career starts with seven wins, six seconds and a third place finish and looks to be in career best form. David Moran has been tabbed with keeping the roll going from the rail Saturday at an intriguing 6-1.

Green Mask 8-1 - Brad Cox trained stakes winner has three wins, four seconds and two third place finishes in 16 career starts. He made his graded stakes debut in October and finished a decent third in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint and has been up and down since. Last time out was a respectable second behind Passion for Action in the Grade 2 Highlander Stakes here July 3 which followed a seventh in the Grade 3 Jaipur Invitational at Belmont Park June 11, a sixth in the minor Opening Verse Stakes at Churchill Downs May 21, a second in the minor Elusive Quality Stakes in April and an eighth in a Group 1 stakes in Hong Kong. He also had a third in the Al Quoz Sprint Empowered by IPIC at Meydan and consecutive runner-up finishes in minor stakes action to start 2015. Green Mask looks to win for the first time in 27 months Saturday in so-so form - from post 3 with Jesse Campbell guiding him.

Tower of Texas 10-1 - defending runner-up in this race, Roger Attfield trained gelding was last seen running second in an Allowance here July 29. That result followed a third in the Grade 3 King Edward Stakes on this track June 2, 10 months away from the track and a seventh in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile September 13. He posted three wins and two seconds last summer here including a 2 3/4 length win in the 2015 Grade 2 King Edward and the runner-up finish in the 2015 edition of this race. He has placed in seven of his last eight starts overall and will be looking for his first win in 14 months from the outside post 7. Alan Garcia gets the call.

Glenville Gardens 15-1 - Sid Attard trained gelding has six wins and two seconds in 12 career starts and enters on a two race win streak - an Allowance last time out July 29 and a Starter Allowance July 8 - both on this track. Before that was a fourth in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup here June 5 and an ugly tenth place finish in the Grade 2 Kennedy Road Stakes here November 22. He had a nice three race win streak last year all on this track including the minor Labeeb Stakes October 25, an Allowance Optional Claiming October 10 and a Claiming in September. Glenville Gardens has won five of his last seven starts overall and will be looking for his first stakes score from gate 4 Saturday. Gary Boulanger has the mount.
