2017 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Preview, Entries & Odds

Masar 9-2
Irish bred Charles Appleby trained colt as placed in all four career starts - two wins and two third-place finishes. He makes his North American debut Friday off a third in the Group 3 Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Chantilly October 1, a win in the Group 3 Belbright Solario Stakes at Sandown September 2, a second in the minor Chesham Stakes in June and a win at first asking. Masar has been competitive so far and hopes to be again Friday in his biggest race to date. The tepid morning line favorite leaves from gate 6.
James Garfield 6-1
Has placed in five of six career starts for trainer George Scott - two wins, a second and two third-place finishes. He makes his North American debut Friday off a good win in the Group 2 Dubai City Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury September 23 which followed a second in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York August 23, a fourth in the Group 2 Vantage Stakes at Goodwood and a maiden score at Doncaster in July. James Garfield has shown serious improvement lately and will be out to make a statement Friday as the morning line second choice from post 7.
Beckford 8-1
British bred Gordon Elliot trained colt has two wins and two seconds in his five career starts. Last time out was a career-worst fifth in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket September 30 after a second in the Group 1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes September 10, another second in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes August 13 and a win in the Group 2 GAIN Railway Stakes July 1 - the last three at Curragh. Beckford tries to bounce back and record a first win in four starts Friday from post 5.
Mendelssohn 8-1
Has one win and a second-place finish in four career starts for trainer Aidan O'Brien. He arrives in North America off a second in the Group 2 Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket October 14, a seventh in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster September 16 and a maiden score at Curragh in August. Mendelssohn has been a tad inconsistent and will chase a first Group/ Graded Stakes score Friday from the rail.
Untamed Domain 8-1
Has four career starts for trainer Graham Motion with two wins and a third-place finish. Last time out was a career-best win in the G2 Summer Stakes at Woodbine September 17 which followed a respectable third in his stakes debut - the G3 With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga August 30, a maiden score on that track July 22 and a fourth in his debut July 2. Untamed Domain has improved every time out and will be after a second straight graded stakes score from gate 2.
Hemp Hemp Hurray 8-1
Wesley Ward trained colt has three career starts with two nice wins and a second-place finish. Last time out was a second behind Untamed Domain in the G2 Summer Stakes at Woodbine September 17 after a win in the minor Tyro Stakes by an eye-opening 7 1/4 lengths at Monmouth Park August 6 and a maiden score by four lengths at first asking - at Belmont Park July 9. Hemp Hemp Hurray has been competitive so far and looks to get back into the win column from gate 12.

Chad Brown trained colt has two career starts with a win and a second-place finish - both at Belmont Park. He made his stakes debut last time out and finished a respectable second in the G3 Pilgrim Stakes September 30 after an impressive maiden score at first asking. Voting Control tries to make it three-for-three to start his career Friday from gate 8.
My Boy Jack 8-1
Keith Desormeaux trained colt has one win and three third-place finishes in his five career starts. He makes his graded stakes debut Friday off a good win in the listed Zuma Beach Stakes at Santa Anita October 9 which followed three straight seconds - the listed Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes here September 3 and two MSW races with one coming on this track July 30. My Boy Jack has shown significant improvement so far and hopes to keep the trend going Friday from post 13.

Will hit the track for the third time for trainer Jonathan Thomas having posted to nice wins so far - at Gulfstream Park July 20 and in his stakes debut last time out - the G3 With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga August 30. Catholic Boy has been impressive so far and tries to remain undefeated Friday.
Encumbered 15-1
Has four career starts for trainer Simon Callaghan with two wins. He stepped into graded stakes company for the first time last time out and failed to fire in a sixth-place finish in the G1 FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita September 30. Before that was a nice two-race win streak - the listed Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes September 3 and a maiden score here July 30. He was fourth in his debut in the listed Santa Anita Juvenile Stakes. Encumbered hopes to bounce back off an underwhelming result Friday from gate 4.
Snapper Sinclair 15-1
Steve Asmussen trained colt has two wins in his three career starts. He debuted with a sixth at Belmont Park July 8 and followed that with a maiden score at Saratoga August 14 and a good win in his stakes debut - the minor Fasig-Tipton Turf Showcase Juvenile Stakes at Kentucky Downs September 6. Snapper Sinclair steps up of a career-best effort and hopes to make some noise Friday from post 11.

Mark Casse trained colt has won three of his four career starts. Last time out was a career-best effort - a win in the G3 Dixiana Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland October 8 after an unflattering sixth in the G2 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs and two wins to start his career- the best of which coming in the minor Skidmore Stakes at Saratoga August 18. Flameaway has been a tad up-and down but looked good last time out. He attempts to make it two straight graded stakes wins Friday from gate 10.
Rajasinghe 30-1
Irish bred Richard Spencer trained colt has placed in three of four career starts - two wins and a third-place finish. Last time out was a career-worst performance however - an eleventh in the Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket September 30 after an OK third in the Group 2 July Stakes on that track July 13 and two wins to start his career - the best coming in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Ascot in June. Rajasinghe has shown form in the past and hopes to bounce back off an ugly effort when he leaves from the outside gate 14 in his North American debut.
Sands of Mali 30-1
French bred Richard Fahey trained colt has won two of four career starts. He makes his North American debut Friday off a disappointing twelfth in the Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes September 30 at Newmarket after two good wins - the Group 2 Al Basti Equiworld Gimcrack Stakes at York August 26 and a stakes at Nottingham August 3. Sands of Mali hopes to avenge an underwhelming effort from post 3.
