2017 Penn Mile Stakes Entries at Penn National

Big Score 5-2

Has three wins, a second and a third-place finish in his six career starts for Tim Yakteen. He made his graded stakes debut back on November 4 and finished an OK fifth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf and has been decent since - a third last time out in the G2 American Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs May 6 followed a good win in in the G3 Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland April 7. He also had a good win in the minor Zuma Beach Stakes at Santa Anita October 10, a second in the minor Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes September 3 and a win at first asking - at Del Mar in July. Big Score has looked good in his career thus far and will chase a second graded stakes score in three starts. Javier Castellano gets the call on this intriguing morning line favorite - the only graded stakes winner in the field.

Frostmourne 3-1

Christophe Clement trained gelding has two wins and a second-place finish in his four career starts. Last time out was a respectable second in the minor Woodhaven Stakes at Aqueduct April 22 which followed a nice win in the minor Awad Stakes at Belmont Park October 29, a fourth in the G3 Pilgrim Stakes on that track October 1 and a win at first asking in September. Frostmourne has been competitive so far and hopes for a first graded stakes score (second stakes win overall) with Irad Ortiz in the irons of the second betting choice.

Bronson 4-1

Will race for the seventh time for trainer Todd Pletcher having posted three wins and a second-place finish so far. Last time out was a nice win in the minor English Channel Stakes at Gulfstream Park May 6 which followed a fifth in the G3 Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park March 25 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream January 29. Before that was a second in a similar race on that track December 30, a fourth in his only other stakes action to date - the G3 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga in July and a maiden score at first asking at Monmouth Park in June. Bronson has been competitive so far and hopes for a first graded stakes score (second straight stakes win overall) from gate 4 with Tyler Gaffalione guiding him.

Cistron 6-1

has placed in seven of eight career starts for trainer John Sadler - three wins, a second and three third place finishes. He makes his graded stakes debut Saturday off a second in the minor Desert Code Stakes at Santa Anita May 13, a nice win in the minor Northern Spur Stakes at Oaklawn Park April 15, a third in the minor Pasadena Stakes at Santa Anita March 19 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score on that track in February. Outside of one bad effort in his second career start Cistron has been a factor in every career start. He hopes to keep the roll going from gate 6 with Paco Lopez in the reins.

Bonus Points 8-1

Is the most experienced entry in the field - nine starts with two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes for trainer Todd Pletcher. He enters off a nice win in the minor Parx Derby May 6 which followed a fifth in the G2 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct April 8, a fourth in the G3 Withers Stakes on that track February 4 and consecutive runner-up finishes - behind El Areeb in the G3 Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct in his graded stakes debut January 2 and the restricted Maryland Juvenile Futurity at Laurel Park December 10. Before that was a third in the minor Awad Stakes October 29 and a maiden score at Belmont Park October 1. Bonus Points has been good every time out and is expected to be again Saturday from gate 2 with John Bisono guiding him.

Mo Maverick 8-1

Has hit the board in six of seven starts for trainer George Weaver - three wins, two seconds and a third-place finish. He steps into graded stakes company for the first time Saturday off a third in the minor James W. Murphy Stakes at Pimlico May 20, an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream March 11, a second in the minor Damon Runyon Stakes at Aqueduct in December and another Allowance Optional Claiming score at Aqueduct in November. Mo Maverick tries for a first ever stakes score Saturday and enters in decent form. Feargal Lynch has been tabbed o ride from post 7.

Prize Fight 8-1

Has three career starts for trainer Michael Maker with a win and two third place finishes. He enters on the heels of consecutive thirds - the minor 14 Hands Winery Sophomore Stakes April 2 at Tampa Bay and a Starter Optional Claiming at Gulfstream March 16. They followed a Maiden Claiming score on that track February 12. Prize Fight has been trending upward and hopes to make a statement in his graded stakes debut from post 3.

Time to Travel 8-1

Michael Matz trained colt has a win and a second-place finish in his four career starts. Last time out was an OK second in the minor LARC Sir Barton Stakes at Pimlico May 20 after a fourth in his only graded stakes action - the G3 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland April 15 and a maiden score at Gulfstream April 1. Time to Travel has been OK so far and will be in search of a career-defining win Saturday from post 5. Edgar Prado rides.

Shiraz 8-1

Michael Maker trained colt has a win, two seconds and two third place finishes in 10 career starts. Last time out was a fifth in an Allowance at Belmont Park May 27 which followed a second in a similar race on that track April 29 and consecutive thirds - the minor Cutler Bay Handicap at Gulfstream April 1 and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Aqueduct February 26. Before that was a sixth in the OBS Championship (Colts and Geldings Division) Stakes January 24, a respectable third in his only graded stakes action - the G3 Dania Beach Stakes at Gulfstream January 7 and a fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming in November. Shiraz has been a tad tough to figure out and will be after a first stakes score from the rail Saturday. Kendrick Carmouche has the mount.

Holiday Stone 12-1

has placed in five of seven career starts for trainer George Weaver - two wins, a second and two third place finishes. He made his graded stakes debut two starts back and finished a respectable second in the G3 Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland April 17 but followed that with an eighth last time out in the G2 American Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs May 6. Before those results were a third in the minor Columbia Stakes at Tampa Bay March 11, a sixth in the minor Kitten's Joy Stakes at Gulfstream Park February 4 and two straight wins - the best of which was an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream in December. Holiday Stone will be after a first stakes score Saturday from gate 8. Luis Saez will be in the saddle.
