Bluegrass Envy Seeks Upset in San Felipe (G2)

December 10, 2019

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Bluegrass Envy, a 3-year-old maiden bred by the University of Kentucky, takes his show on the road Saturday when he meets winners in the $400,000 San Felipe (G2) at Santa Anita Park.

Owned by Loooch Racing Stables Inc., J Stables LLC and Courtney Schneider, Bluegrass Envy is winless in five starts. The son of Any Given Saturday finished fourth behind the multiple-stakes placed Basha in his 2-year-old debut in September, second in December behind promising 3-year-old Classic Rock, and fifth in a maiden event in January that produced next-out winner Monaco, a $1.3 million purchase who won by a dozen Feb. 12 at Tampa Bay Downs.

Bluegrass Envy will be saddled by trainer Rasharn Creque, a former leading trainer in the U.S. Virgin Islands who took over the training of several Loooch horses recently.

"I'm looking forward to the experience - it will be my first time at Santa Anita," said Creque, who came to South Florida to train seven years ago. "It's an amazing thing to go against winners, but anything is possible with young horses. They can change quickly. I worked him last Saturday in 1:14 and he's been training good. We'll roll the dice and see what happens."
