Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) Race Quotes

December 10, 2019

Aidan O’Brien (trainer, Found (Ire), 1st) – “I’m absolutely delighted. She’s a very special mare. To run in two Champion Stakes (Irish and English, an Arc and then to come and win the Breeders’ Cup Turf is quite remarkable. She’s very special.”

Ryan Moore (trainer, Found (Ire), 1st) – “She is very tough filly. To run in Champion Stakes and the Arc and to come on here is amazing. She beat a champion (Golden Horn) and that is special too. I had to go around one and then I had to go.”

John Gosden (trainer, Golden Horn, 2nd) – “We always knew we were taking a risk running on ground like this that is softer than anything he’s run on before. Take nothing away from the winner. She’s a very good filly, and the best turf horse in America has finished third, Our horse has run a terrific race on ground that didn’t suit him.

Frankie Dettori (jockey, Golden Horn, 3rd) – “It was just too loose him. He ran a great race though. He was laboring from the top of the stretch.”

Anthony Oppenheimer (owner, Golden Horn, 2nd) – “I’m very proud of our horse today. He’s lost nothing in defeat.”

Chad Brown (trainer, Big Blue Kitten, 3rd, Slumber (GB), 4th and Shining Copper, 11th) – “Little (disappointed) but both horses ran terrific. I’m very proud of them. Disappointed they didn’t win, but man, those four horses on the wire together are four very good racehorses. I’m really proud of the effort my two horses put in. I’m so proud of them at age seven to be running as good as ever.

“I can tell you those two horses ahead of them, Found and Golden Horn, they weren’t backing up either. They were flying through the lane. So it’s hard to make up ground on horses that are that talented and finishing that strong at a mile and a half. What a terrific horse race!”

Joe Bravo (jockey, Big Blue Kitten, 3rd) – “He’s an amazing animal in my book. He really laid it on the line turning for home. He’s a real special horse.”

Irad Ortiz, Jr. (jockey, Slumber (GB), 4th) – “I had a good trip, I can’t complain. My horse ran a big race, he just got beat by some better horses.”

Florent Geroux (jockey, The Pizza Man, 5th) – “No excuse. Good trip. We were right behind Golden Horn all the way. I had the filly stuck on my inside. Turning for home he made a little run, but just got tired. At the top of the stretch I thought I was fighting for the win and at the end he just got tired.”

This was trainer Aidan O’Brien’s 10th Breeders’ Cup victory and second of the weekend. Jockey Ryan Moore has now won eight Breeders’ Cup races.

Found is the third female to win the Turf behind Pebbles and Miss Alleged.
