Flag Flies Half-Mast and Jockeys Wear Black Caps at Gulfstream Park West to Honor Memory of Juan Saez
MIAMI GARDENS, FL -- Gulfstream Park West honored the memory of jockey Juan Saez Thursday, when the U.S. flag in the infield flew at half-mast during the 10-race program. The jockeys also wore black caps through the entirety of the program to pay tribute to the 17-year-old apprentice jockey who tragically died Tuesday evening from injuries sustained in a racing accident at Indiana Grand Race Course. Gulfstream Park West jockeys and employees also participated in a moment of silence to honor Saez’ memory in a winner’s circle ceremony following the sixth race. The younger brother of popular South Florida and New York jockey Luis Saez began his riding career in Kentucky in June and had won 89 races from 440 mounts.
