WAR STORY, MR. Z SCHEDULED FOR KENTUCKY DERBY BREEZES WEDNESDAY

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Tuesday, April 21, 2015) – Two hopefuls for the 141st Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (GI), War Story and Mr. Z, are scheduled to work Wednesday morning at Churchill Downs.

Loooch Racing Stables, Glenn Ellis and Christopher Dunn’s War Story is scheduled to work five furlongs at 5:45 a.m. with Dylan Davis aboard, according to trainer Tom Amoss. Third in the Louisiana Derby (GII) in his most recent start, War Story galloped 1 ½ miles before the morning renovation break under Marvin Orantes on Tuesday morning.

Zayat Stables’ Mr. Z is scheduled to work at 8:30 a.m. during the training period reserved for Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks contenders. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas said that exercise rider Edvin Vargas would handle the work. Mr. Z galloped a little more than a mile after the break Tuesday with Vargas up.

OTHER KENTUCKY DERBY NOTES

AMERICAN PHAROAH – With trainer Bob Baffert looking on, Zayat Stables’ American Pharoah galloped 1 ½ miles after the morning renovation break with exercise rider Jorge Alvarez up. Soon after the morning activity was completed, Baffert was headed to the airport to return to his Santa Anita base. Baffert’s other Kentucky Derby candidate, the undefeated Dortmund, is scheduled to work Saturday at Santa Anita after which Baffert will return to Louisville for a scheduled Sunday work by American Pharoah.

BOLD CONQUEST – Ackerley Brothers Farm’s Bold Conquest walked the shedrow at trainer Steve Asmussen’s barn a day after working five furlongs in 1:02.80.

DANZIG MOON – John Oxley’s Danzig Moon visited the paddock and then galloped 1 ½ miles under exercise rider William Cano after the morning renovation break. Runner-up in the Blue Grass (GI) in his most recent start, Danzig Moon is scheduled to work Saturday.

FAR RIGHT – Laura Moquett, wife of trainer Ron Moquett and exercise rider for Far Right, confirmed that Mike Smith would have the mount on the Arkansas Derby (GI) runner-up in the Kentucky Derby. Smith has been aboard the colt, owned by Harry Rosenblum and Robert LaPenta in his past three starts. Far Right walked the shedrow Tuesday.

INTERNATIONAL STAR – Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s International Star galloped 1 ¼ miles at the nearby Trackside training center with Joel Barrientos aboard for trainer Mike Maker. Maker has not set a date for the move to Churchill Downs for International Star, who is riding a three-race win streak. International Star is scheduled to work at Churchill Downs with jockey Miguel Mena aboard.

ITSAKNOCKOUT/MADEFROMLUCKY/MATERIALITY/STANFORD – Cheyenne Stables’ Madefromlucky, fourth in the Arkansas Derby (GI) in his most recent start, arrived at Churchill Downs at10:30 a.m. Tuesday after a short van ride from Keeneland. Trainer Todd Pletcher was expecting three other Derby hopefuls to arrive at Churchill Downs Barn 40 around 3 p.m. following a flight from South Florida. The Florida trio that had been at Palm Beach Downs is Alto Racing’s Florida Derby (GI) winner Materiality, Starlight Racing’s Itsaknockout, fourth in the Florida Derby, and Stonestreet Stables, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith’s Stanford, the Louisiana Derby (GII) runner-up. Remaining at Keeneland for Pletcher is WinStar Farm and Stonestreet Stables’ Carpe Diem, winner of the Blue Grass Stakes (GI) in his most recent start. He’ll work Saturday or Sunday at Keeneland.

KEEN ICE – Donegal Racing’s Keen Ice jogged after the morning renovation break with exercise rider Faustino Aguilar aboard.

MUBTAAHIJ – UAE Derby (GII) winner Mubtaahij and stablemate Umgiyo breezed Tuesday morning at Arlington over the Chicago track’s all weather surface. They cantered one lap and then broke off at the half-mile pole with Mubtaahij given a :36.20 time for the final three-eighths. Regular morning partner Lisa Moncrieff was aboard Mubtaahij. “Everything went exactly as planned,” said Trevor Brown, assistant to trainer Mike de Kock.

TENCENDUR – Philip Birsh’s Tencendur galloped an easy mile under Blair Golen after the renovation break. “We went from the 4 ½ to the 4 ½,” Golen said of the Wood Memorial (GI) runner-up’s first day on the track. “He will probably go a mile-and-an-eighth tomorrow.” Jockey Manny Franco, who was aboard Tencendur when he broke his maiden in January, has the mount for the colt, who is trained by George Weaver. Weaver is expected to arrive in Louisville on Wednesday and be at Barn 42 Thursday morning.

KENTUCKY OAKS NOTES

ANGELA RENEE/ESKENFORMONEY – Siena Farm’s Angela Renee, runner-up in the Ashland (GI) in her most recent start, arrived at Churchill Downs at 10:30 Tuesday morning after a short van ride from Keeneland. She was one of five horses that arrived here from Keeneland for trainer Todd Pletcher, a contingent that also included La Troienne (GI) hopeful Stopchargingmaria and recent Ben Ali (GIII) winner Protonico. Pletcher’s other Oaks contender, StarLadies Racing’s Eskenformoney, was scheduled to arrive at Churchill Downs midafternoon from South Florida. Eskenformoney had been stabled at Palm Beach Downs.

BIRDATTHEWIRE – Forum Racing’s Gulfstream Park Oaks (GII) winner Birdatthewire jogged after the morning renovation break with Miguel Garcia aboard.

CONDO COMMANDO – Multiple graded stakes winner Condo Commando got her first feel of the Churchill Downs racing surface Tuesday morning, jogging after the renovation break under trainer Rudy Rodriguez. “We got here a little after 5:30 last night and she shipped well,” Rodriquez said. “I just wanted to show her the track a little bit today. I will let her tell me when she wants to work.” Joel Rosario has the mount on the filly, who has won five of six starts for her ownership group of Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables and The Elkstone Group.

FOREVER UNBRIDLED – Charles Fipke’s Forever Unbridled galloped a mile and a half under exercise rider Emerson Chavez early Tuesday morning.

INCLUDE BETTY – Brereton Jones and Timothy Thornton’s Include Betty visited the paddock and then galloped 1 ½ miles under exercise rider Leo Garcia before the morning break. Lisa Sloan, assistant to trainer Tom Proctor, said the filly arrived at Churchill Downs at 1:30 Monday afternoon after the short ride from Keeneland where she had been training since a victory in the Fantasy (GIII) at Oaklawn Park.

LUMINANCE/MAYBELLENE – Jill Baffert’s Maybellene worked a half-mile in company in :48.40 over a fast track after the Tuesday morning renovation break. With Chris Landeros aboard, Maybellene worked with Holiday Camp and posted fractions of :12.60, :24.40, :36.80 and galloped out five furlongs in 1:01.80. Trainer Bob Baffert’s other Kentucky Oaks prospect, Luminance, galloped a mile and a half under Jorge Alvarez before the renovation break.

OCEANWAVE – Gary and Mary West’s Oceanwave galloped 1 ½ miles after the renovation break under exercise rider Santos Rivera. Trainer Wayne Catalano said Rafael Bejarano would have the mount on Oceanwave in Oaks. Bejarano won the 2010 Oaks aboard Blind Luck.

PUCA – Donegal Racing’s Puca galloped 1 ½ miles before the morning renovation break with exercise rider Jo Lawson up.

SHOOK UP – Regis Racing’s Shook Up tack-walked Tuesday morning.
