Zipessa Wins First Lady Stakes at Keeneland
The $400,000 G1 First Lady Stakes was run Saturday, October 7 at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. Fillies and mares three years old and upward raced one mile on Keeneland's turf track. 16-1 outsider Zipessa finally realized her full potential and recorded a long-awaited first G1 score (her first win overall in 14 months) - by 1 1/2 lengths, earning an automatic berth into the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf in the process. Hawksmoor finished a decent second at 5-1 odds in the field of seven, a neck ahead of fellow graded stakes winner and 2-1 co-favorite Roca Rojo who got in for third. Dona Bruja, who was also sent off at 2-1 was fourth, with grade 1 winner 5-2 Dickinson fifth and One Liz and Delectation completing the order of finish.
