Foxwoods Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park
Las Vegas, NV - New York's Belmont Park will host the Grade 1 Foxwoods Champagne Stakes this Saturday, October 6. The race features some of the best two year olds in the land as they chase their share of the $400,000 purse over a distance of one mile on Belmont's main dirt track.
A very strong field of seven two year olds has been entered in the Foxwoods Champagne. It goes as race 8 on Belmont's Saturday card. Let's take a look at all seven entries and what brought them to this Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" Grade 1 event.
2012 Foxwoods Champagne Stakes Race Favorites
Archwarrior - is one of three Todd Pletcher colts entered in the Champagne and has a ton of hype behind him. He has only one start but it was an impressive one - a Maiden Special Weight score by 3 3/4 lengths at Saratoga August 30.
Shanghai Bobby - has three career stars and three wins for trainer Todd Pletcher. Last time out was an impressive 3 3/4 length score in the Grade 2 Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes to follow a maiden win on April 19 at Aqueduct and an impressive win in the Track Barron Stakes at Belmont Park on June 27. Shanghai Bobby looks good and should be in contention Saturday.

Goldencents - only has one start and it was a Maiden Special Weight score by 7 1/4 lengths at Del Mar September 2 but comes across the country for this race. Trainer Doug O'Neil figures to have a contender on hands with this super-fast colt.
Micromanage - is the last of the Todd Pletcher pupils entered and is also coming off a Maiden Special Weight score in his only career start at Saratoga September 1.

Fortify - won his debut at Saratoga by 4 1/2 lengths on August 4 and followed that with a second to Shanghai Bobby in the Three Chimneys last time out after getting bumped at the start. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has high hopes for this colt going forward and Saturday's race is another great measuring stick.
Bern Identity - is trained by Kelly Breen and after a second place finish in his first race, he won by a stunning 13 3/4 lengths in wire-to-wire fashion at here on June 1. He followed that up with a win in the Grade 2 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga on July 22 and was third most recently to Shanghai Bobby and Fortify in the Three Chimneys.
Chief Havoc - European colt will make his North American debut after a second and a third in two starts overseas.
