Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream - $200,000 (G2)

Dave Bond

Las Vegas, NV -- The $200,000 Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes comes our way on Sunday, January 29th from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. The race is contested over seven furlongs, is open to three-year-old fillies and takes place on Gulfstream's dirt track. The Forward Gal is the 9th race on Gulfstream's Sunday schedule and has a post time of 4:17 PM ET.

There is a varied field for this year's Forward Gal. Six fillies are entered - four of which participated in the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes at Gulfstream on New Year's Day. The winner from that race Sacristy enters the race as the clear favorite. But there are a few interesting names that could challenge, including the second and fourth place finishers in the Old Hat.

Sacristy - Sacristy looked a tad shaky in the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes but won on this very track less than a month ago. It was her second straight win on dirt after starting her career on synthetic. Before her wins on dirt, Sacristy has a pair of second place finishes in maiden special events races at Arlington Park and Keeneland.

Say A Novena - Say A Novena was second to Sacristy on New Year's Day. In seven starts last year, she had three wins including two stakes victories and two second place finishes, The Edward Plesa Jr. trained filly finished a disappointing 10th in a field of 14 at last year's Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs. Say A Novena will have blinkers on in this race to improve the focus that Plesa Jr. thought she lacked in the Old Hat.

Broadway's Alibi - finished second in her debut - a maiden special race at Delaware Park and followed it up less than a month later with a win in a similar race on the same track. She won last time out by five lengths in a 6 1/2 furlong allowance race at Gulfstream Park on December 15th.

The Others:

Good Deed - Good Deed has won three straight races on three different tracks to start her career - the last being the 6 furlong Letellier Memorial at Fair Grounds on December 18th.

Quick Flip - Quick Flip finished fourth last time out in the Old Hat Stakes but did finish second in two Distaff races prior to that - one at Tampa Bay Downs and the other at Monmouth Park .

Yara - Yara has won three of four starts in her career - the latest and most impressive being the Joe O'Farrell Juvenile Fillies at Calder on November 12th.

The Forward Gal Stakes is Race 9 on Gulstream's Sunday card with a Post Time of 4:17 PM PT.
