Las Vegas, NV - Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Florida will host the Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes this Saturday, February 9 as it joins three other stakes races on Gulfstream's packed Saturday schedule. $150,000 will be on the line for horses four years and older willing to go 1 1/8 miles on Gulfstream's turf track.
An interesting field of nine has been confirmed for the Suwannee River. It is race 10 on Gulfstream's Saturday card with a post time of 5:59 PM. Let's take a brief glance into the credentials of all nine entries and what brought them to this Grade 3 stakes.
Romacaca - graded stakes winner Romacaca has won three of her last five starts including the Grade 3 Modesty Handicap at Arlington Park July 14 and two minor stakes races - one coming two back on this track in the South Beach Stakes and the other at Hawthorne in the Indian Maid Handicap. Last time out was a third in the Florida Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf January 19 here. Romacaca has been terrific as of late and is expected to be again this Saturday.
Inglorious - Queens Plate winner and Canada's champion three year old filly and runner up for horse of the year in 2011 had four starts in 2012 - a third last time out in the Grade 2 Bayakoa at Hollywood Park December 8, a third in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes at Woodbine way back on July 8 after a disappointing fourth in the Grade 2 Nassau and a second to fellow Marketing Mix in an Allowance race at Keeneland. He has five wins, two seconds and three third place finishes in 13 career starts and enters the Suwannee in decent form.
Leading Astray - has nine career starts with five impressive wins including the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington Park on September 15 and the Hatoof Stakes before that. Her last three starts have also been good for trainer Chris Block - a third last time out in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes, a second in the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere at Churchill Downs November 17 and a third before that in the Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes at Keeneland. Leading Astray has been in the money every time out and is certainly a threat in the Suwannee River.
Hard Not to Like - made her 2012 debut with a good second place finish in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland on April 7 after a good juvenile campaign. Her only other start of 2012 came back in May - a sixth in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks. Last time out was a nice win in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes on this track January 5. She has four wins and a second in eight career starts and based on her score last time out could be a factor in the Suwannee.

Abaco - had a pair of sixths to start her career but has placed in all 10 starts since. She enters riding a four race win streak - three Allowance Optional scores including one on this track December 9.
Channel Lady - Todd Pletcher filly made her graded stakes debut last time out with a good second behind Hard Not to Like in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes here January 5 after five career starts yielded three wins and a second place finish. Two back was a nice win in the minor Stardusk Stakes at Aqueduct November 21 after a second in the Pebbles Stakes at Belmont in October.
Kya One - made her North American debut for trainer Chad Brown with a fifth in the Nobel Damsel after mixed results in France. In 2012 she had two win and a third place finish in six starts - the wins coming on April 5 in her native France and last time out in a nice win in the Grade 3 My Charmer Handicap at Calder November 22.
Affair Dabbler - raced 13 times in 2012 and recorded three wins - all Allowance scores. Two was a distant tenth in the South Beach Stakes here December 9 after an eighth in the Grade 3 Cardinal Handicap at Churchill Downs November 10. Affair Dabbler has four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 17 career starts and is coming off a distant eighth January 5 in the Marshua's River Stakes on this track.
My Pal Chrisy - is a main track only entry but has placed in her last six starts overall. Her last two races resulted in third place finishes at Gulfstream - last time out in the Sunshine Millions Distaff Stakes January 19 and the Ocala Stakes December 30.
