2013 Royal Heroine Mile Stakes Race Favorites

My Gi Gi - won her first graded stakes June 9 in the Grade 2 Honeymoon Handicap over Lady of Shamrock and Stormy Lucy to follow an OK second in the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes on May 5. She had an OK fourth in the Del Mar Oaks in August and followed that with a fifth in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita in September. Last time out was another ho-hum fifth in the Grade 1 Gameley Stakes. She has raced in four straight Grade 1 races with sketchy results - hopes are that a cut back in competition will see her return to her Honeymoon Handicap form.

Schiaparelli - has eight career starts with four wins, a second and two third place finishes for trainer Mike Puype. Last time out was her first stakes win - the minor Great Lady M. Stakes here May 26 over Customer Base after a decent second in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes in April. She has two wins and a second in her last three starts overall, is 2-for-3 on this track and could easily emerge from this slightly watered down field.

Royal Heroine Mile Stakes 2013 | Remaining Field Entries

Stormy Lucy - had won three straight races at the beginning of 2012 - two Allowance races and the Golden Poppy Stakes at Golden Gate on May 6. She finished a respectable third in the Honeymoon by just a half length and followed that up with a pedestrian fifth in the Grade 1 American Oaks. She has raced two straight Grade 1 races after that - she was third in the Rodeo Drive after a good second in the Del Mar Oaks. Stormy Lucy ended her 2012 campaign with an ugly eleventh in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf and then was forced into a seven month layoff. She returned to action June 9 to a fourth in the minor Redondo Beach Stakes here. She has shown good form in the past and could surprise Saturday.

I Dazzle - John Sadler pupil started 2013 with a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Santa Anita and has rattled off two straight wins ahead of the Marjorie L. Everett - an Allowance February 23 and the minor American Beauty Stakes April 7 in her turf debut. She finished an OK third in the Marjorie L. Everett May 18. Her other graded stakes results include a fourth in the Grade 2 Goldikova in November and a fifth in the Grade 3 Robert J Frankel Stakes in December. She had been just OK in the past but two wins and a third ahead of this weekend has opened a few eyes.

Appealing - Irish bred filly had an OK career in Europe before shipping to North America where she debuted March 24 with a third in an Allowance at Santa Anita. She followed that with two nice Allowance Optional Claiming scores in the spring but was ninth last time out in the Redondo Beach Stakes June 9 on this track.

Egg Drop - has just eight career starts with three wins, a second and two third place finishes. She raced just once in 2012 to a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming but has five starts already in 2013 with two wins in her last three starts. Her last stakes action came two back - a disappointing fifth in the minor Santa Lucia Stakes April 14.
