Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes is on tap for this Saturday, September 28 from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia California - scene of four Grade 1 races that day. A purse of $250,000 will be on the line for a group of two year olds willing to go 1 1/16 miles on Santa Anita's dirt track.
The FrontRunner has attracted a field of 11 future stars to go in race 7 on Santa Anita's Saturday card. Post time is 4:00 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all 11 combatants for this Grade 1 stakes. The FrontRunner is a Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" prep for the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile on Nov. 2.
Tamarando - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt had three MSW starts to start his career and finally broke maiden on this track August 18 after a second in his second start and a fourth in his debut. Last time out however was an eye-opening win in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity at 7-1 odds over Dance with Fate September 4. He stretches out Saturday with Julien Leparoux in the saddle looking for his third win in five starts.
Dance With Fate - Debuted July 14 at Hollywood Park and finished an ugly eighth in a MSW but bounced back with a win in a MSW on this track August 11. Last time out was a very troubled second behind Tamarando in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity September 4. Rafael Bejarano will retain the mount hoping to make a statement Saturday.
Can The Man - finished a very respectable third last time out in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity behind Tamarando and Dance With Fate for trainer Bob Baffert after a MSW score here in his debut August 17. He looked good in the Futurity and will be looking for a win over two colts that have already beaten him. Martin Garcia will be in the reigns.
Ontology - finished second to Alpine Luck in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes at Hollywood Park July 13 after another second in his debut - a MSW also at Hollywood Park June 22. Last time out was yet another second in the minor Oak Tree Juvenile Turf Stakes at Del Mar September 4 after an OK fourth in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 2 Best Pal also here August 4. He has yet to claim victory but has been knocking on the door. New rider Corey Nakatani gets the mount.
Roundupthelute - Bob Baffert trained colt won the minor C.B. Afflerbaugh Stakes last time out September 11 at Fairplex in just his second career start after a seventh in a MSW in his debut at Del Mar August 28. He is just one of two stakes winners in the field and could be a factor Saturday with Garrett Gomez in the saddle.
Bond Holder - Doug O'Neill trainee debuted with a fifth in the minor Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes July 13 and has raced three MSW races since - all at Del Mar. Last time out was a second August 31 after a third August 11 and another third July 27. He has been busy indeed but will be looking for his first career win Saturday with Mario Gutierrez riding him.
Schoolofhardrocks - has just one career start for trainer David Hofmans and it was a good one - a MSW score on this track August 31. Victor Espinoza will be in the saddle.
Test Ride - has just one career start for trainer Michael Pender - a MSW score at Del Mar August 17.
Better Bet - has seven career starts under his belt already but has just one win, a second and a third place finish in those races. His win came at Del Mar July 21 but he has finished off the board in two races since. He enters in so-so form for trainer Mike Harrington.
Even Echo - has three career starts for trainer Myung Kwon Cho - all MSW races. He has failed to place in any with a fifth two back at Del Mar being his best career result. Not much is expected on Even Echo Saturday.
Flat Gone - has two career MSW starts and has finished off the board in both - a fourth last time out August 31 at Del Mar followed a fifth in a similar race in that same track August 11.
