2013 Sir Beaufort Stakes Race Favorite Entries

No Jet Lag - had seven starts in Europe with two wins and a second place finish but has been good on North American soil for trainer Simon Callahan. He debuted in the US with an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Del Mar August 11 and followed that with a nice win with a Beyer Spree Figure of 105 in the Grade 2 City of Hope Mile on this track October 5. Last time out was a huge step up in competition when he finished sixth behind Wise Dan in the Breeders' Cup Mile. No Jet Lag has apparently looked good in training ahead of the La Brea and will be looking to bounce back this weekend. Joel Rosario gets the call from post 8.

Gervinho - Carla Gaines trained colt has won three of eight starts including one division of the restricted Oceanside Stakes here and the minor Zuma Beach Stakes in October 2012. In 2013 he has five starts and has placed in all but last time out when he finishes fourth in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby December 1. The 2013 results include a third in the Grade 2 Twilight Derby at Santa Anita November 1, a second in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby and a nice win in the minor Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar in July. He has been in the mix in every race this year and will be looking for his first stakes score Sunday and has two wins and a second on grass. Rafael Bejarano who has ridden Gervinho in all three of his wins will be in the saddle from the six hole Thursday.

Sir Beaufort Stakes 2013 | Remaining Contenders

Procurement - Tom Proctor trained colt had a streak of five off-the-board finishes snapped last time out with an Allowance score at Hollywood Park November 28. The results include a fifth in the Grade 2 Twilight Derby November 1, a fourth in the minor Uniformity Stakes, fourths in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby and the Grade 3 American Derby and a fifth in the Grade 3 Arlington Classic in May. He has one stakes score under his belt already - the minor La Puente Stake in April among his four career wins. Procurement has 15 career starts with those wins, a second and a third place finish. He has two wins and a second in three starts at this distance on grass and has to be considered a contender Thursday based on those facts alone. He will have Joe Talamo aboard from post 7.

Tom's Tribute - has six career starts for trainer James Cassidy but Thursday marks his graded stakes debut. He does enter the Sir Beaufort on a two race win streak however - last time out in the overnight Uniformity Stakes by 2 1/4 lengths here October 20 which followed an Allowance Optional Claiming score also on this track September 29. He has been no worse than second in his last five starts and appears ready for his step up in competition.

Tizzy a Minister - has 14 career starts already with three wins, five seconds and five third place finishes. He has raced three minor stakes races ahead of this weekend after a good second in his last graded stakes appearance - the Grade 2 Swaps at Hollywood Park in July. Last time out was a third in the California Flag Handicap here October 19 after a third in the El Cajon Stakes in August and a fifth in the Real Good Deal Stakes at Del Mar August 2. He also had a terrific win in the Grade 3 Affirmed Handicap at Hollywood Park in June after a third place finish as 11-10 favorite in the minor Snow Chief Stakes April 27. Tiz a Minister has placed in eight of 10 starts this year and will be looking to end a four race winless streak Thursday.

Dice Flavor - Patrick Gallagher trained colt made his stakes debut with an upset win in the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby at 9-1 odds at Golden Gate February 16 and won again in the competitive Grade 2 La Jolla Handicap at 9-1 odds at Del Mar August 10. He has certainly struggled since - an eighth last time out in the Grade 2 Twilight Derby at Santa Anita November 1 followed a tenth in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby September 1. He also had a third in the Grade 2 Swaps Stakes here in July, a fourth in the Grade 3 Affirmed and a doomed trip to Meydan Racecourse this year. Dice Flavor looked good early in the year but has struggled mightily in his last two starts overall.

Horizontalyspeakin - John Sadler trained gelding races in stakes company for the first time Thursday. He has two wins and a third place finish in eight career starts - all in California. Last time out was a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Hollywood Park December 13 after an Allowance score here October 27.

Si Sage - French bred colt makes just his fourth start on North American soil - the first being a fifth in the minor Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar July 17, the second being another fifth in the Grade 2 La Jolla Handicap, and a tenth last time out in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby September 1. At home he had three wins, five seconds and a third place finish in 11 career starts. He is highly regarded but has yet to prove himself quite yet in North America.

Outside Nashville - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt won the minor Robert Dupret Derby at Santa Rosa in August and has really struggled in three starts since. Last time out was a sixth in an Allowance at Hollywood Park November 28 after a twelfth in the Grade 2 Twilight Derby here November 1 and a fifth in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby in September. He has three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 12 career starts but enters this weekend in less-than-spectacular form.

Educated Guess - David Hofmans trained gelding has just two career starts and makes his stakes debut Thursday. Last time out was a Starter Allowance score at Hollywood Park November 21 after a Maiden Claiming win here November 3.
