2013 Ballerina Stakes Race Favorites

Dance to Bristol - has finished with first or second in 16 of her 17 career starts. She enters on a terrific six race win streak including the Grade 2 Honorable Miss last time out July 29 on this track, the Grade 3 Bed o' Roses Handicap at Belmont Park in her graded stakes debut, the minor Skipcat Stakes by 4 3/4 lengths at Pimlico May 17 and the minor Sugar Maple Stakes by nine lengths with a Beyer Speed figure of 106 at Charles Town April 20 after a couple of Allowance Optional Claiming scores at Laurel Park this year. She has been competitive in every career with nine wins (six stakes wins) in 17 career starts and showed that a step up in competition wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She is absolutely on fire and the one to beat Friday.

Starship Truffles - Martin Woolfson trained filly has had a very good year so far - eight wins with five wins and a second place finish. She enters the Ballerina on a two race win streak - the Grade 1 Princess Rooney Handicap last time out by 3 3/4 lengths over Judy the Beauty at Calder July 6 being by far her biggest score. Her last graded stakes action came in March - a disappointing ninth in the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream. She is the 122 pound highweight and figures to be a big test for Dance to Bristol and the rest of the Ballerina field. Luis Saez will be in the saddle from post 6 Friday.

Ballerina Stakes 2013 | Remaining Field Entries

Book Review - Bob Baffert trained filly had a very impressive win in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes over Reneesgotzip and the dominant My Miss Aurelia on December 26 after a disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Gazelle. She started 2013 with a pair of good seconds - the Grade 2 Santa Maria as 11-10 favorite and the Grade 2 La Canada before that. Last time out was her first win in three starts this year - the Grade 2 A Gleam Handicap at Hollywood Park July 13. She has five wins and two seconds in her last nine starts overall and should be considered a threat Friday. She starts from post 5 with Rafael Bejarano in the saddle.

Judy the Beauty - Wesley Ward trained filly has four wins and six seconds in 10 career starts but was off for seven months before an Allowance Optional Claiming score in April at Keeneland. Her last two races have been of the graded stakes variety resulting in a pair of good seconds. Last time out was in the Grade 1 Princess Rooney Handicap behind Starship Truffles at Calder July 6. She has yet to record a graded stakes score but has finished second in all five she's entered so far. She's been knocking on the door and hopes for a breakthrough Friday.

Moment in Dixie - has three wins and three seconds in eight career starts for trainer James Toner and is coming off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at this distance on this track July 24 - her only win since June 2012. Her last graded stakes action came in September - a fourth in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx. Friday marks Moment in Dixie's third start of the year - she was off nearly seven months before a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in June at Belmont Park.

Classic Point - Allen Jerkins trained filly raced in staked company for the first time last time out and finished a very respectable second by a neck behind Dance to Bristol in the Grade 2 Honorable Miss here July 29. Before that was a two race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont Park June 30 after a Starter Optional Claiming score on that same track two weeks earlier. She has four wins in 17 career starts and hopes to build on her impressive stakes debut Friday.

She has four wins in 13 career starts with that four race win streak heading into the Honorable Miss and will be looking for a serious bounceback Friday.
