Las Vegas, NV - Sunshine Millions Day comes our way from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida this Saturday, January 18. On the schedule is the Sunshine Millions Distaff - a listed stakes race for fillies and mares four years old and upward. A purse of $300,000 will be on the line for those willing to go 1 1/8 miles on Gulfstream's main track.
A competitive group of seven females will line up in the Florida Sunshine Millions Distaff- race 5 on Gulfstream's busy Saturday card. Post time is 2:36 PM. Here is a brief glance into the credentials of all seven entries for this most intriguing stakes race.
Toasting - started her career with three straight MSW races with a win in the third. She was a very nice third in the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes behind Dreaming of Julia at Belmont Park in October 2012 but was fifth in the Joe O'Farrell Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Calder November 10. Last year she had an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream February 15, a third in the OBS Championship (Filly Division) Stakes at Ocala Training Center March 11 and was third again in the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes behind Marathon Lady May 17. She finished fourth in the Grade 1 Mother Goose and won the Dream Rush Stakes at Belmont Park October 20. Last time out Toasting was a good second in the Grade 3 Comely Stakes at Aqueduct November 30, missing by a head. She has three wins, two seconds and four thirds in 13 career starts. Toasting is the 9-5 morning line favorite and will have Jose Ortiz aboard from post 2.
My Pal Chrisy - Martin Wolfson trained mare entered the Go for Wand at Aqueduct on a three race win streak including the Millions Distaff Preview Stakes November 9, the minor Musical Romance Stakes and the Pasadena Stakes - all results at Gulfstream. She went on to a third in the Grade 2 Go For Wand and was third recently in the Ocala Stakes here December 29. She also had a good stretch in the summer at Calder - the highlight being a third in the Grade 1 Princess Rooney Handicap July 6. My Pal Chrisy has three wins, a second and five third place finishes in 11 starts last year and is in the best form of her 43 race career. Jonathan Gonzalez gets the call trying for My Pal Chrisy's first win at this distance.
Devil's Cave - Martin Wolfson trained filly has eight career starts with three wins and three seconds in eight career starts. She enters off a two length win in the Ocala Stakes on this track December 29 after a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in November and another win in an Allowance Optional Claiming in October. Devil's Cave has never been worse than second in four starts on this track - two wins and two second but tries two turns for the first time Saturday. Joel Rosario gets the mount from post 4.

Sweet N Discreet - Todd Pletcher trained filly has looked very good as of late - two wins and two seconds in her last four starts. Last time out was a second to Devil's Cave in the Ocala Stakes on this track December 29 after two Allowance Optional Claiming scores on this track earlier this winter. She has three wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in her 10 career starts and is an interesting name for the Distaff. Joe Bravo gets the call from the rail.
Sky Skier - will race for just the sixth time for trainer Kelly Breen but does have two wins and three second place finishes. She steps into stakes company for the first time and races two turns for the first time off an Allowance Optional Claiming score on this track December 22.
Dreamlicious - is coming off a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track December 26 - the only time she placed in her previous five. She has just two wins in 24 career starts - an Allowance here in July and a Maiden Claiming at Calder in May. She also had a fourth three back in the Millions Distaff Preview but hasn't looked great otherwise.
Burning Truth - won an Allowance race here December 1 but was seventh last time out also on this track December 21. She finished fifth in the Millions Filly and Mare Turf Preview Stakes in November but also won a Claiming race here in September. Burning Truth has been inconsistent but has won two of her last five starts at Gulfstream.
