A competitive field of eight older entries have been confirmed for the Tokyo City Cup - race 8 on Santa Anita's Saturday cared. Post time is 4:00 PM. Let's take a glance into the past performances of all eight combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Blueskiesnrainbows - Jerry Hollendorfer pupil won the 2012 Grade 1 Swaps Stakes but struggled a bit after that - an OK fourth in the Grade 2 Mervyn Leroy as 2-1 favorite at Hollywood Park May 4, 2013 followed a nice Allowance Optional Claiming score by 3 3/4 lengths March 22 and a pair of seconds in Allowance Optional Claiming to start his 2013 campaign. Also last year he had a third in the Grade 3 Cougar II Handicap July 26, a twelfth in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic August 25, a win in the minor but competitive Ralph M. Hinds Stakes and a fifth in the minor Bull Dog Handicap. Last time out was a disappointing sixth in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes February 8 after a nice win in the Grade 2 San Pasqual here January 1, a terrific gate-to-wire win in the Grade 3 Native Diver at Hollywood Park December 14 and a good second behind London Bridge in the Breeders' Cup Marathon. He has two wins and a second in his last four starts but enters off his worst performance in quite some time. He has three wins, three seconds and two third on this track and should be considered the favorite Saturday.
Segway - Richard Mandella's lightly raced gelding is coming off a fourth in the Grade 2 San Marcos here February 8 after an OK third in his stakes debut - the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup at this distance behind Lucayan December 14, an Allowance Optional Claiming score by 1 1/2 lengths October 27 and after failing to place in his previous three starts. He has seven career starts with two wins and a second and will be looking for his first graded stakes score Saturday.
American Blend - has 12 career starts for trainer Carla Gaines with three wins, a second and two third place finishes. He is coming off a disappointing eighth and last in the competitive Santa Anita Handicap March 8 after an OK third in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes behind Blingo and Imperative. Before that was one of his wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track January 1, a sixth and a fourth respectively in Allowance races. His third in the San Antonio opened a few eyes but the eighth in the Big Cap may have closed many again. He tries 1 1/2 miles for the first time Saturday.
Majestic Harbor - took to the track for the first time since May and finished a good second behind Blueskiesnrainbows in the Grade 2 San Pasqual at 17-1 odds here January 11 and followed that with an OK fourth last time out in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes on this track February 8. Before his layoff Majestic Harbor finished fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Churchill Downs and had two off-the-board finishes in graded stakes action - a fifth in the Grade 3 Texas Mile and a sixth in the Grade 2 New Orleans Handicap. He has four wins, six seconds and three thirds in 20 career starts but looks for his first stakes win Saturday. His second two back has brought about some optimism however making Majestic Harbor an intriguing entry for the Tokyo City.
