2015 Mr. Prospector Stakes Race Favorites

Speechify - defending champion in this race also won the minor Kenny Noe Jr. Stakes a month prior to that. He has been inconsistent in four starts since. Last time out was a fifth in an Allowance at Gulfstream Park West November 22 after a DNF in the Grade 3 Woodford Stakes October 3, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming here in April and a third in the Grade 3 Gulfstream Park Sprint in February. However Speechify is 4-for-4 at this distance, has three wins in four tries at Gulfstream, and has been worse than third once in eight lifetime starts at Gulfstream, including four wins. Joel Rosario rides the likely favorite from gate 6.

C.Zee - won the Grade 3 Gulfstream Park Sprint in February and has been up and down in six starts since. He enters off consecutive fourth place finishes in Allowance Optional Claiming races at Gulfstream Park West last month, a second in a similar race in October and two straight fifth place finishes in graded stakes action earlier this year - the Grade 3 Belmont Sprint Championship in July and the Churchill Downs Stakes in May. He also had two runner-up finishes in graded stakes action in 2014 to go along with two minor stakes scores. C.Zee has been competitive at times but enters having placed in just one of his last five starts overall. He has four wins and three seconds from seven career starts at Gulfstream, has four wins and a second in five starts at six furlongs and finished ahead of Speechify in the Grade 3 Gulfstream Park Sprint. Edgard Zayas has been tabbed with righting the ship Saturday on C.Zee's favorite track from the rail.

Mr. Prospector Stakes 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Singanothersong - Ronald Pelligrini trainee has 23 career starts with five wins, five seconds and five third place finishes. He won this race in 2013 during a streak of five straight races in which he hit the board. Singanothersong has largely struggled since including an eighth in the 2014 edition of this race, a ninth in the Grade 2 Smile Sprint Stakes here in July and a fifth last time out in the minor Treasure Coast Stakes on this track September 19. He did have a win two starts back thanks to a DQ in the minor Bonita Stakes here in August but has otherwise been pretty disappointing. Singanothersong hopes to rediscover his 2013 and has apparently looked good in works leading up to this race. He departs from gate 2 Saturday with Gerardo Corrales in the saddle.

Stallwalkin' Dude - David Jacobson trained gelding has 13 wins, four seconds and five third place finishes in 36 career starts but enters in OK form. Last time out a win in a Starter Stakes here December 5 after a fourth in the minor Frank J. De Francis Memorial Stakes at Laurel Park November 14 and an eighth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint. Before that was a third in the Grade 1 Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park September 26, a win in the minor Tale of the Cat Stakes at Saratoga August 23, a second in the minor Teddy Drone Stakes August 2 and a third in the Grade 3 Belmont Sprint Championship in July. Stallwalkin Dude has placed in 11 of 13 starts ahead of this race and will be after his first ever graded stakes score from post 3 Saturday. Javier Castellano gets mount.

Grande Shores - Stanley Gold trainee has 49 career starts with 14 wins, 16 seconds and five third place finishes and has two wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in nine starts this year. He finished second in the Florida Sunshine Millions Sprint to start his year and went on to a second behind Valid in the Grade 3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes here in February, a second in the minor Blue Heron Stakes in April and a win in the minor Parrot Key Stakes in June - both results on this track. He has been OK since - a fourth behind Stallwalkin' Dude in a Starter Stakes December 5 followed a Starter Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream Park West October 14 and consecutive thirds in minor stakes action on this track. Grande Shores has been in every race he's entered in the last two years and will be after his first every graded stakes score. Jockey Jeffrey Sanchez has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal from gate 4.

X Y Jet - has placed in nine of 11 career starts - three wins, five seconds and a third place finish. He enters on a two race win streak - both Allowance Optional Claiming races with the last one coming November 11. Before that was a disappointing sixth in the Grade 2 Swale Stakes here in March, a second in the Grade 3 Hutcheson Stakes on this track in January and a second in the minor Pasco Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs December 27, 2014. X Y Jet has been knocking on the door but has yet to record a stakes win. Jockey Emisael Jaramillo hopes to change all of that from post 5 Saturday.

Weekend Hideaway - won the minor Florida Sunshine Millions Sprint in January - but failed to place in his next five starts - a sixth in the Grade 1 Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont park in September followed a fourth in the minor Tale of the Cat Stakes at Saratoga August 23, a DNF in an Allowance Optional Claiming in June, a seventh in the minor Affirmed Success Stakes in May and a fifth in the Grade 3 Gulfstream Park Sprint in February. Weekend Hideaway has been a bit better lately however - last time out was an Allowance score by 6 1/2 lengths at Gulfstream Park West November 22 after a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming on that same track November 11 and a third in the minor Hudson Handicap in October. He has gotten better lately and will try for his first graded stakes score in decent form. Paco Lopez gets the mount from the outside post 7.
