BC Premier's Handicap 2015 at Hastings Racecourse

Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 BC Premier's Handicap comes our way from Hastings Racecourse in gorgeous Vancouver, British Columbia on Monday, October 12. Horses three years old and upward will take to Hastings dirt track and race 1 3/8 miles for a purse of $100,000.

A field of eight have been confirmed for the BC Premier's Handicap - race 7 on Hastings Monday schedule. Post time is 4:55 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all eight combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.

2015 BC Premier's Handicap Race Favorite Entries

Square Dancer - makes his graded stakes debut Monday on a nice three race win streak - all on this track. Last time out his win came in the minor SW Randall Plate Handicap September 13 after wins in the minor Redekop Classic Handicap August 3 and an Allowance Optional Claiming by two lengths in July. He has 26 career starts with nine wins (four in his last five starts overall), five seconds and four third place finishes. Square Dancer is in the best form of his career and departs from the rail with Richard Harvey Hamel aboard the 122 pound highweight and obvious favorite for the race.

Killin Me Smalls - multiple stakes winner has 26 career starts with 11 wins, three seconds and five third place finishes. He won three straight races earlier this year at Northlands Park including the minor Journal Handicap May 18 and the minor Spangled Jimmy Handicap June 13 and enters off another minor stakes score - the Speed to Spare Stakes at Northlands Park September 7. Killin Me Smalls has placed in eight straight races ahead of Monday's race including four wins and is expected to be competitive again. Ruben Lara had the mount from gate 6.

Don'tmesswithkitten - has just two wins in 34 career starts but does have 15 seconds and two third place finishes as well. Last time out was a second behind Square Dancer in the SW Randall Plate Handicap here September 13 after an ugly eighth in the minor Redekop Classic in August and a fourth in the minor Lieutenant Governor's Handicap in July. He races in graded stakes company for just the second time - the first being a ninth in the 2014 Grade 3 Longacres Mile. Don'tmesswithkitten has placed in just two of his last five starts and looks for his first win since March, 2013 when he leaves from gate 2 with Amadeo Perez in the saddle.

Shooting Jacket - finished seventh in this race in 2013 and third last year. He has just five starts since last year's BC Premier's Handicap and placed in just two. Last time out was one of those on-the-board finishes - a third in the minor SW Randall Plate Handicap September 13 which followed a fourth in the minor Redekop Classic Handicap and a second in a Claiming July 5 - all results on this track. Shooting Jacket looks for his first stakes score Monday when he leaves from gate 8 with Rico Walcott guiding him.

Don't Hold Me Back - races in graded stakes company for the first time Monday after 12 career starts yielded two wins, a second and a third place finish. He enters off an Allowance Optional Claiming score here September 20, a second in the minor Richmond Derby Trial Handicap August 21, a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming August 9 and a tenth in a Claiming at Churchill Downs in June. He has a win and a runner-up finish in his last two starts after failing to place in his previous three starts but hopes for a second straight win - from gate 4 with David Lopez in the irons.

Brass and Gold - last year's fourth place finisher in this race won the minor British Columbia Cup Classic on this track August 21 but followed that with a fourth last time out in the minor SW Randall Plate Handicap here September 13. He has five wins, three seconds and four third place finishes in 27 career starts and has placed in three of his last four starts overall. He tries for his second stakes score in three starts when he leaves from post 7 with Pedro Alvarado in the irons.

Senor Rojo - won this race in 2010 and finished ninth in 2013. He races in stakes company for the first time this year after eight starts against lesser competition produced two wins, a second and three third place finishes - all on this track. Last time out was an Allowance Optional Claiming score September 27 after a sixth in a Claiming September 13, a second in a Claiming August 28, a third in a similar race August 7 and another Allowance Optional Claiming score in July. Senor Rojo has placed in six of his last seven starts overall and hopes that success translates to a first stakes score. Jeffery Burningham rides from post 3.

Remembertobreathe - finished second in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby in August, 2014 and followed that with a fifth in the Grade 3 British Columbia Derby here last September 14 and a seventh in last year's edition of this race. He has placed in three of six starts since. Last time out was a sixth in an Allowance at Emerald Downs after consecutive runner-up finishes in similar races on that same track. Remembertobreathe has three wins, four seconds and a third place finish in 17 career starts and will be after a first stakes score from post 5 Monday.
