Las Vegas, NV - Laurel Park in the great state of Maryland will be the scene of the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie Handicap this Saturday, February 14. A purse of $300,000 will be on the line for fillies and mares three years old and upward willing to go seven furlongs on Laurel Park's dirt track.
11 older females will take to the track in the Barbara Fritchie - race 8 on Laurel Park's Saturday card. Post time is 3:57 PM. Let's take a glance into the past performances of all 11 entries for this Grade 2 stakes.
Sam's Sister - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly has been very impressive in her six race career - five wins. She made a successful step up into graded stakes company two back - a nice win in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes at 12-1 odds at Santa Anita December 26 and followed that with another impressive win last time out - by 1 1/4 lengths in the Grade 2 Santa Monica Stakes also at Santa Anita January 19 - both at the Fritchie distance. Sam' Sister's only blemish came November 21 - an eighth in her only turf start - in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Del Mar but her most recent results have made that a distant memory. She tries to make it three straight graded stakes scores Saturday as the one to beat with Elvis Trujillo in the saddle of the 123 pound highweight from post 10.
Princess Violet - Michael Hushion trained filly has eight career starts with four wins and three second place finishes. She enters off a second as 2-1 favorite in the Grade 3 Go for Wand Handicap at Aqueduct November 28 and consecutive wins - the minor Empire Distaff Handicap by 5 1/2 lengths at Belmont Park October 18 and an Allowance in dominant fashion on that same track two weeks earlier. She stepped into stakes company five back and finished a very good second behind Untapable in the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park June 28 and followed that with a seventh in the Grade 2 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga in August. Princess Violet looks to keep the roll going and for her first graded stakes score from post 2 with Jose Ortiz guiding her.
Toasting - Thomas Albertini trained filly has certainly been up and down lately. She is coming off a troubled fourth as second choice in the Florida Sunshine Millions Distaff here January 17 after an OK third in the Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm Stakes at Belmont Park October 26, a sixth in the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes September 27, a win in the minor Sky Beauty Stakes September 7 and a good second in the Grade 3 Seaway Stakes at Woodbine in August. Toasting now has five wins, three seconds and six third place finishes in 24 career starts and has placed in her last two graded stakes tries. Sheldon Russell will be in the saddle from gate 4 hoping to cure some inconsistencies for this experienced entry.
Best Behavior - Martin Wolfson trained mare makes her graded stakes debut Saturday having recorded three wins and two seconds in her last five starts overall. Last time out was a second in the minor Miami Shores Handicap January 7 after a win in the minor Glass Slipper Stakes (both results on this track), a second in the minor Sky Beauty Stakes at Gulfstream Park West in November and consecutive Allowance Optional Claiming scores here during the summer. She has seven wins, six seconds and five third place finishes in 20 career starts and steps up in good form. Edgard Zayas rides from post 5.
Lady Sabelia - Robin Graham trained mare makes her graded stakes debut Saturday on a nice three race win streak. She won the minor What a Summer Stakes January 3, the minor Willa On the Move Stakes December 6 and an Allowance Optional Claiming October 29 - all at Laurel Park and also won the minor Red Cross Stakes at Monmouth Park in June. Lady Sabelia has placed in 12 of 13 starts - seven wins, two seconds and three third place finishes and looks ready for her step up in competition. Horacio Karamanos has the call from post 9.

Expression - makes her graded stakes debut Saturday after 26 career starts produced seven wins, six seconds and fur third place finishes. She has placed in her last four starts overall - a pair of seconds in Allowance Optional Claiming races this fall were followed by a nice win in the $100,000 Garland of Roses Stakes at Aqueduct December 6 and a third in the $100,000 Interborough Stakes last time out January 17. She has been competitive the last five months and hopes her success translates in her step up in competition. Wilmer Garcia rides from post 2.
Stormy Novel - John Servis trained filly won the minor Miss Woodford Stakes at Monmouth in July but has placed in just one of four starts since. Last time out was a fourth, right behind Expression in the minor Interborough Stakes at Aqueduct after an Allowance Optional Claiming score here in December and an eighth in the minor Safely Kept Stakes also on this track. Stormy Novel has 12 career starts with four wins and two seconds and enters in typically inconsistent form. Kendrick Carmouche has been tabbed to ride from gate 8.
Before You Know It - makes her graded stakes debut Saturday for trainer Claudio Gonzalez after posting four wins and two seconds in her last six starts overall. Last time out was a second in the minor Nellie Morse Stakes January 3 after three straight Allowance scores and a Claiming win - all results on this very track. She has 27 career starts with seven wins, six seconds and five third place finishes and enters in the best form of her career by far. Roimes Chirinos has been tabbed to keep the upward trend going from post 7.
Disco Barbie - Dale Capuano trained mare has placed in 14 of 16 career starts - competitive virtually every time out. She is coming off an uncharacteristic fourth in the minor What a Summer Stakes here January 3 after four straight runner-up finishes including the Grade 2 Matron Stakes, the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion Stakes and the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters. She has yet to record a stakes win but has been awfully close on numerous occasions. Disco Barbie is expected to be competitive again Saturday when she leaves from the outside post with Victor Carrasco aboard.
Flattering Bea - finished sixth in this race last year for trainer Crystal Pickett and went on to a win in the minor Sugar Maple Stakes at Charles Town in April. She hasn't looked great since - a seventh last time out in the minor What A Summer Stakes here January 3 followed a second in the minor Pink Ribbon Stakes at Charles Town in September and consecutive ninth place finishes including the Grade 3 Bed o' Roses Handicap in June. She has 19 career starts with five wins and six second place finishes and will be after her first graded stakes score Saturday. Xavier Perez has the call from post 6.
Miss Mischief - 2013 Pearl City Stakes winner, Dale Campuano trained mare has 15 career starts with six wins - three straight this past summer at Presque Isle Downs including the minor HBPA stakes but stumbled in her last two start - both stakes races. Last time out was a fourth in the minor Nellie Morse Stakes on this track January 3 after a fifth in the Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes at Woodbine in November - her only graded stakes action to date. Miss Mischief looks to get back to her summer form and for her first graded stakes score from post 3 with Victor Carrasco aboard.
