2015 Oklahoma Derby Race Favorite Entries

Desert Dynamo 5-2 - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt races in graded stakes company for the first time Sunday after seven career starts produced two wins, a second and a third place finish. Last time out was a third in the minor $100,000 El Cajon Stakes at Del Mar August 29 after a fifth and a second respectively in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming races this past summer. Desert Dynamo has been OK against lesser competition and hopes that success translates in his step up in competition Sunday. Mario Gutierrez has been tabbed to ride the morning line favorite from post 5.

Mobile Bay 7-2 - enters off a career defining win in the Grade 2 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs September 12. That win followed a third in the minor Super Derby Prelude Stakes August 8 and three straight wins at Evangeline - the minor Louisiana Legends Cheval Stakes in June, the minor Lafayette Stakes in June and an Allowance in May. He now has five wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 10 career starts and off a superb win should be a factor again Sunday. Edgar Prado will be in the reins of the intriguing morning line second choice from gate 4.

Oklahoma Derby 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Souper Colossal 9-2 - multiple stakes winning Edward Plesa trained colt has four wins and four seconds in seven eight starts - the only off-the-board finish was a seventh in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Before that race was a nice wire-to-wire win in the minor Sapling Stakes which followed a win in the minor Tyro Stakes and a maiden score in June - all three results at Monmouth Park. This year he posted an easy 1 1/2 length win in the minor Texas Glitter Stakes at Gulfstream February 7 and has four straight runner-up finishes ahead of this race - including the $300,000 Grade 3 Smarty Jones Stakes at Parx August 29 and the $750,000 Grade 2 West Virginia Derby August 1. Souper Colossal has a win and four seconds this year - competitive every time out and hopes to snap a string of runner-up finishes when he leaves from gate 6 with Paco Lopez in the irons.

The Truth Or Else 6-1 - Kenneth McPeek trained colt raced seven straight graded stakes races at the end of 2014 and into 2015 with a second in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes in February and thirds in the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes in November and in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes in October being the best results. He was last seen May 22 winning an Allowance Optional Claiming and before that had a fifth in the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile May 2, a seventh in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby in April and fourth in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes in March. The Truth Or Else has placed in just one of his last four starts overall but that was a win last time out. Calvin Borel has been tabbed with keeping the momentum going from gate 10.

Classy Class 8-1 - has nine career starts for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin with three wins and two third place finishes. He has six graded stakes starts with a pair of thirds (the Grade 3 Withers Stakes and Grade 3 Gotham Stakes) being the best results. He has won two of his last four starts overall however - both Allowance races at Belmont Park but is coming off an ugly ninth in the King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga August 29. Classy Class will be after his first stakes score when he departs from post 9 Saturday with Joe Bravo aboard from post 9.

Bold Conquest 10-1 - Steve Asmussen trained colt has a win, three seconds and two third place finishes in 10 career starts and looks for his first win since breaking maiden in his second career starts in August. He does have a pair of thirds in graded stakes action - the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park in March and the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity in October but has failed to place in his last three graded stakes tries. Last time out was a fourth in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby July 18 after another fourth in the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes June 13 and a fifth in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby in April. Bold Conquest has placed in just one of his last four starts overall but hopes to change all that with Angel Cruz guiding him from gate 8.

He had a second in the minor Remington Springboard Mile in December and a two-race win streak before that - the minor Clever Trevor Stakes in November and the minor Oklahoma Classic Juvenile Stakes in October. Shotgun Kowboy loves this track and has been competitive every time out. M. Clifton Berry will be in the saddle hoping to keep that trend going from post 7.

Tale of Verve 20-1 - Dale Stewart trained colt has 10 career starts with a win, two seconds, and two third place finishes but has struggled in his last three starts overall. Last time out was an eighth in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes August 29 after a sixth in the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer August 1 and a seventh in the Belmont Stakes June 6. He raced in stakes company for the first time May 16 and posted a career best effort - a second at 28-1 odds in the Preakness Stakes right behind American Pharoah and finally broke maiden before that - in his sixth career start April 23. Tale of Verve has been up and down and will be looking to end a slump and for his first stakes score Saturday from post 11 with Jamie Theriot in the irons.

Witt Six 20-1 - has 18 career starts already for trainer Jerry Gorneau with five wins, four seconds and four third place finishes. He enters on the heels of consecutive runner-up finishes - the Grade 3 Canadian Derby last time out at Northlands Park and in the minor Manitoba Derby August 3. Witt Six has three wins and two seconds in his last five starts overall and enters in the best form of his career. CJ McMahon has the mount from post 3.

Hillbilly Royalty 20-1 - Donnie Von Heel trained gelding has three wins and two second place finishes in seven career starts and enters off an Allowance on this track August 22. Before that was a fifth in the Grade 3 Iowa Derby and a career best effort - a win in the minor Prairie Mile May 30. He also had a sixth in the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile at Churchill Downs May 2, a second in the minor Northern Spur Stakes April 11 and a fifth in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes in February. Poseidon's Way 20-1 - Donnie Von Hemel trained colt has placed in five of six career starts - three wins, a second and a third place finish. He makes his graded stakes debut Sunday off an Allowance score in this track which followed a third in his stakes debut - the minor Northern Spur Stakes at Oaklawn Park in April, a second and a first respectively in a pair of Allowance races for start his year. Poseidon's way has improved every time out and hopes for a first stakes score Saturday. Luis Quinonez gets the call from the rail.

Lucky Player 30-1 - has nine career starts for trainer Steve Asmussen with two wins, a second and a third place finish. He won the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs last September but has placed in just one of five starts since - that being a third in an Allowance last time out on this track. Before that result was a pair of eighth place finishes in minor stakes action early in 2014, a seventh in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes November 29 and an eighth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile November 1. Lucky Prayer hasn't been good lately but hopes to get back to the form he had last year at this time - from gate 2 with Ramon Vazquez aboard.
