San Marcos Stakes 2015 at Santa Anita Park

Las Vegas, NV - Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California will play host to the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes on Saturday, February 7. A purse of $200,000 will be on the line in this 1 1/4 mile turf test for horses four years old and upward.

Nine older horses will take to the track in the San Marcos - race 7 on Santa Anita's Saturday card. Post time is 3:30 PM. Here is a brief look into the past performances of all nine entries for this Grade 2 stakes.

2015 San Marcos Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Finnegan's Wake - Peter Miller trainee has five win, three seconds and three third place finishes in 26 career starts and enters in the best form of his career - two straight wins ahead of this weekend. Last time out was a win in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes January 3 which followed a win in the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup at Del Mar November 27. Before that however was a career worst effort - a tenth at 58-1 odds in the Breeders' Cup Turf. He won the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap in July and also had a second in September in the Grade 2 John Henry Turf Championship September 28. He now has two wins and a second place finish in his last four graded stakes starts and is expected to be competitive again Saturday. Victor Espinoza rides from the rail looking to keep the roll going.

Patrioticandproud - Mark Casse trainee won the minor Toronto Cup Stakes in July 2012 and has been up and down since. He has been good lately however - consecutive runner-up finishes ahead of this race - both to Finnegans Wake. Last time out was a second in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes here January 3 after another second in the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup. Those seconds followed a third in the Grade 2 Las Vegas Marathon Stakes at Santa Anita in October and a second and a fourth respectively in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming races at Del Mar. He has placed in five of nine graded stakes starts (three straight) but looks for his first score in top company and his first win overall since April 2013. Drayden Van Dyke will be in the irons from gate 2.

Power Ped - made his graded stakes debut January 3 for trainer Neil Drysdale and finished a good third behind Finnegans Wake and Patrioticandproud in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes and followed that with a win last time out in the minor Cotton Fitzsimmons Stakes at Turf Paradise January 17. He ended 2014 with consecutive runner-up finishes - the best coming four back in the minor Lure Stakes on this track October 26. He has placed in eight of his last nine starts overall with three wins over that span - two wins, two seconds and two thirds on this track. Flavian Prat has the call as Power Ped looks for his first graded stakes score from gate 4.

Majestic Harbor - finished a good second in the 2014 San Pasqual at 17-1 odds and followed that with an OK fourth in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes last February 8. He has been up and down since - last year was highlighted by a stellar win at 14-1 odds by 6 1/4 lengths over Game On Dude in the Grade 1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita, a third in the Grade 2 Californian here in May and another good win - by three lengths in the Grade 3 Tokyo City Cup March 29. Majestic Harbor will be looking to regain his form after three straight unflattering results - an eighth last time out in the Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes here January 10 followed a thirteenth in the Breeders' Cup Classic and a sixth in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic in August. Mike Smith has been tabbed to right the ship in Majestic Harbour's first turf try since 2012 from post 3.

Dynamic Sky - Canadian bred Mark Casse trained colt looked very good early in his career - highlighted by a second in the Grade 1 Dixiana Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland in October, 2012. He went on to a sixth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, a win in the minor Pasco Stakes and a good second in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes in February 2013. He has been OK since. Last time out was a disappointing sixth in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes here January 3 after a good win in the Grade 3 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct November 15, a solid third in the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International October 19 and a second in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes September 14. Dynamic Sky has placed in six of his last eight starts and will be eager to avenge a poor performance last time out. Corey Nakatani has been tabbed to ride from gate 8.

Power Foot - has 19 career starts for trainer Neil Drysdale with four wins and three third place finishes - just one win in five starts last year. He is coming off an Allowance Optional Claiming score here January 8 after consecutive fourths to end his 2014 campaign - the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup in November and the minor More Than Ready Mile in September. Power Foot has placed in just one of his last six starts but that came last time out. Kieren Fallon will be in the saddle from the outside post.

Little Jerry - enters off a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming here January 2 and a fifth in the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup November 27. Before that was a two race Allowance Optional Claiming win streak - the last coming on this track November 8. He has failed to place in his three graded stakes starts and hopes to reverse that trend with Edwin Maldonado in the irons from post 5.

Diamond Bachelor - Patrick Biancoe pupil started his career with two straight wins but hasn't tasted victory since. He raced to a ninth in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and followed that with a fourth in the 2014 Robert B. Lewis Stakes and has placed in two of 10 starts since that race. Last time out was a fifth in an Allowance Optional February 1, a sixth in a similar race January 17 and consecutive eighths including the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes December 26. Diamond Bachelor looks for his first win in 17 months but is likely in over his head in this one. Martin Pedroza has the call from post 6.

Quadrivium - Graham Motion trained gelding has three wins in nine career starts - but is coming off a seventh in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 San Pasqual Stakes here January 10. He has just one win in six starts at home but won his firth two North American starts - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Laurel Park November 14 and an Allowance at Keeneland in October. He hopes to make a little noise Saturday and to avenge a rather ugly effort last time out - with Forest Boyce in the reins from post 7.
